No More Looting!

George Floyd mural created on Santa Barbara wall | NewsChannel 3-12

I feel your anger my blood is boiling too, yet, at the moment I will see looting my support goes away. It could be my property, my house, my car. I worked for it, nobody has the right to take violently away what’s mine. There was a time when I didn’t have much. Nothing was given to me.

Two wrongs don’t make it right. Violent protesters make sure I can never march with them. Not because I don’t believe it their believes -quite the contrary- but I don’t believe in violence. I can’t. I know how it feels to be beaten. I have tasted defeat. I have felt powerless.

Power and violence in the wrong hands. That’s why you are marching, to begin with. Violence, injustice, inequality.

All the things I wish away too.

I am with you. Let me be. Today a politician asked for the protesters to be more confrontational, with that she lost me too. How dare you? That’s not what we need. You don’t ask someone to heal and then hit one more time.

It’s not my age or the color of my skin. It’s my internal yearning for peace and balance that makes me turn around when you start looting.

Violence scares most of us. I am not alone!

I hear you. I feel you. I am with you all the way -yet not in violence.

The verdict will soon be in, and I expect it to be a harsh one. I want them to set an example, nothing else will do. I saw a man die on my screen. I didn’t want to look but knew I had to.

I was there, even though I wasn’t. I cried for a stranger. I looked with disgust at a man in uniform abusing power. Many others like me and people in uniforms felt the same way. We are everywhere -and by your side.

Power in the wrong hands hurts -even kills.

I don’t want to see more injustice. I don’t want to see more racism. I don’t want to see more looting and shooting.

The Portland protesters stood in silence, with that, they got me to my knees. I wept like a willow, had to take a break from what I was doing. Tears quietly running down my face, I stood beside them -far away- quietly and proud.

I understand your anger -most of us do. We are on your side.

Let me be by your side!

In case the verdict might not be what we demand.

Wait that can’t be.

I saw it too!

And then someone explained looting to me.

To be continued…

We should not have to beg people not to loot. If we do, we are at a pretty low point.

        • We are at a low point since the Sandy Hook Shooting and Trumpet dug the hole deeper.
