Have I ever seen them? WTF?

Daily writing prompt
Do you ever see wild animals?

And there it is, finally, it was about time. Drum roll, please. You are reading the dumbest question in the history of daily writing prompts, which includes the original Daily Prompts. Which, let’s face it, perhaps makes me a dumb blogger, because I can’t help but have to answer.

Sometimes it happens, the fingers start flying over the keyboard and voila, there comes another not-so-interesting blog post.

Have I ever seen wild animals? Are you serious?

Yep, every day, they are everywhere. The squirrels happen to be part of our wildlife and then those birds. Don’t get me started on them. Let me think? Oh, yes we call them wild birds because they don’t have to sit in a cage, imprisoned for a lifetime, no, they live outside our homes in nature and sing just for the joy of it. They also poop on our cars, I suppose that also comes with the joy.

Also the crazy bird, the lead singer in our neighborhood, the one who starts singing at 3 am. Yep, he is wild and happens to be untamed until the day he stops singing.

Even the ants and the other critters we have declared a pest, because they happen to bother us humans and our human living conditions, yes, even those are…yep, you guessed it, they are wild animals.

The spider in the bathroom in the morning, as harmless as it might seem, is part of our wildlife and so are the worms in our flowerbeds.

To put it simply, insects are wildlife so are worms and bugs. Invertebrates are the animals in our world without a backbone and we know a lot of them, after all, they make up 90% of the animals on earth and are part of the base of our food chain. Yep, that’s right, you might not like the worm, but the animals we love to serve so generously on our plates, they do.

Wildlife are the animals that live wild in a country -in every country. Animals include amphibians, reptiles, fish, mammals, birds, and invertebrates.

So have I seen them? Ever?

Are you kidding me?

Unfortunately I don’t think the writers of the Daily Prompts thought the matter through. To city folk who never leave the confines of the city tend to think only two or four legged beings who walk on the surface of the Earth can be called animals.
Just by the way, you missed bacteria. They are animals too by strict definition, just teensy- weensy ones.

    • I agree. The question made me laugh, so I had to answer this particular prompt. I assume you are right with the city folks.

I can feel your frustration through the lines here! Even I was a bit confused when i came across this question. I couldn’t place what they intended to receive as an answer- especially when it was us humans who tried to seemingly domesticate them. But at the same time, I guess many people have had some unique, rather perplexing encounters with the wild animals in general and they could recount them here.
Either way, this post is a humorous take on some commonly existent scientific inaccuracies and I love it! 🤩

By their activity in the soil, earthworms offer many benefits: increased nutrient availability, better drainage, and a more stable soil structure, all of which help improve farm productivity. Worms feed on plant debris (dead roots, leaves, grasses, manure) and soil.

Thank you for your response to this prompt, Bridget. I have to say that you made me laugh. Even in my suburban neighborhood coyotes are constant companions. I wonder what expectations the prompt-writer had in mind?

    • I am glad I made you laugh. I know you need it as much as I do. We have Coyotes too…in Ohio. Can you believe it? I almost fainted when I saw the first one in our neighborhood. First thing in the morning when I walked the dogs. Now I am used to them. Not sure how they ended up here, that might be an interesting research.

I feel so badly for my mom. At 91 she still walks every day, but she’s had to stop walking in our neighborhood because even though the coyotes aren’t very interested in her, they scare her, understandably. They live in a local golf course, and sometimes we see them in packs. I’m pretty enamored with wildlife, but maybe more at a distance. 🙂

  24. You’re absolutely right … on both counts. All animals are ‘wild’ – I interpreted ‘wild’ to mean ‘dangerous’ or ‘really ****** off’ for my post. (And yeah – as someone new to these Daily Prompts, I agree they can be pretty lame – but at least they do stimulate some reaction.) 🙂

I usually ignore those daily prompts, but this one caught my eye – I could put together a lovely post on a lot of the big and hairy wildlife around here … then I thought of confining myself to the garden. What did I see today? Apart from birds there were spiders, beetles, caterpillars, a snail, ants galore and even a butterfly!

    • I did the old original daily prompts for a while when I started blogging, but it got boring fast. Some of the questions were mildly unintelligent back than already.
As for this one, just tickled my funny bone tremendously.
