For The Christmas Blues

I have a very eclectic (weird?) music taste. I am all over the map. I listen to (almost) every genre. I even found some hip-hop and rap music that I actually like.

I am a picky listener, not easily entertained, and quickly bored. I was trained (tortured by Sister Anna in school) to HEAR every single instrument in a song or an orchestra. I appreciate good lyrics but can be entertained with silly ones as well. I enjoy the growls in the voices and a female singing voice that doesn’t need to scream.

I like the outstanding, the unique, the recognizable, the unforgettable. I like goose pimples and shivers down my spine. Some music can make me smile or cry. A good melody or rhythm makes me wiggle my toes and sometimes even my butt, and on rare occasions, I might feel the need to dance all by myself.

I like Christmas music, but I get quickly tired of the same old songs we hear every year so this year, besides some international Holiday music, I got the blues and I thought I share some of my findings with all of you.

John Lee Hooker

Known to music fans around the world as the “King of the Boogie,” John Lee Hooker endures as one of the true superstars of the blues genre: the ultimate beholder of cool.

His work is widely recognized for its impact on modern music – his simple, yet deeply effective songs transcend borders and languages around the globe. Each decade of Hooker’s long career brought a new generation of fans and fresh opportunities for the ever-evolving artist. He never slowed down either: As John Lee Hooker entered his 70s, he suddenly found himself in the most successful era of his career – reinvented yet again, and energized as ever, touring and recording up until his passing in 2001.

Born near Clarksdale, Mississippi on August 22, 1917 to a sharecropping family, John Lee Hooker‘s earliest musical influence came from his stepfather, William Moore ̶— a blues musician who taught his young stepson to play the guitar, and whom John Lee later credited for his unique style on the instrument.

There is something good in all genres of music, that is true. Although I have little experience with opera. John Lee Hooker is a great musician! Hope you had a wonderful holiday!

I’m very similar, Bridget. I like the popular music, but I get bored quite easily, too. And I’ve always been happy with my eclectic tastes. It’s so wonderful that with on-line listening and streaming we can find new artists, or new to us artists, as well. I enjoyed this selection, so thank you very much! And happy holidays, my friend.

A fantastic tribute to the great John Lee Hooker Bridget. I love his music and he has jammed with so many who later became stars in their own right. A sweet Christmas song. Thanx!!!

Video wouldn’t play for me! However, I came across JLH some years past and really enjoyed his music. Yes, good music can touch us in so many personal ways – like nothing else really. Except maybe poetry.
