The Red, White, and You

The red, the white, the stars and stripes—
They speak to something deep in you.
Not just to lands or lofty fights,
but to the kindness that you do.

Freedom isn’t flags alone,
or speeches carved in granite stone.
It’s found in how you hold a hand,
or help another understand.

Each time you vote, you shape the land.
Each word of truth, a stand you make.
Independence isn’t just a tale—
it’s every breath of risk you take.

So as you watch the sky explode,
Remember what the colors show:
The red is sacrifice and fight,
The white is peace we owe tonight,

And blue is courage never done—
a vow we pass from sun to sun.
So thank you, friend, for being true—
You are the red, white, and the you.

Freedom is not a date on the calendar – it’s a commitment, a reflection, a responsibility. We should rise every day with purpose, honoring not only the birth of a nation but the ongoing work of justice, unity, and hope.

This Fourth of July, let us honor the sacrifices of past generations while looking ahead with hope. Our future will be shaped by how we come together today – building communities, fostering equality, and embracing diversity as our greatest strength.

We can only accomplish these goals by showing respect for each other despite our differences, further uniting us as a nation.

Happy Independence Day

    • I read an article in the NYT about the detention center in FL and I cried. I always said I don’t understand the world anymore, but now I do understand. This world is changing (back) and cruelty will rule.

It is heartbreaking. We should learn from history and BETTER ourselves instead of bringing back hate stronger than ever.

        • This hatred is killing me inside. I wish for numbness, but also know that it would be bad.

    • There are many who think like me. We just need to get louder and get our ‘sh..’ together.

This is a stirring and deeply reflective take on patriotism—one that moves beyond symbols to the heart of what freedom truly means: **daily acts of kindness, courage, and collective responsibility.** The poem beautifully weaves together the colors of the flag with human values—red as sacrifice, white as peace, blue as enduring courage—anchoring patriotism in personal integrity rather than mere spectacle.

The closing lines elevate the message, framing freedom as an *active choice*—not just a historical event but a living commitment to justice and unity. It’s a call to honor the past while embracing the work still needed, together. Perfect for the Fourth of July, yet timeless in its urgency. **A celebration of what freedom *could be*—if we choose to make it so.** 🇺🇸✨
