Looking at me, with his white ‘paint mark’ that turned out to be a scar. He was not even three months old when he was left behind in a sink in a maintenance room at an apartment complex.
We were still mourning the loss of our oldest dog, but decided to take him in. It was up to me to name him, and so from this day on, he was known to all as “Vader.”
When the picture was taken, he had been with us for a couple of days. His eyes got to me right from the start. I saw kindness and trust, and curiosity at times. To this day, every time he looks at me, I feel like I’ve been given permission to look into his soul.
…

…
He continued to trust us, even when our fashion statements were not to his liking. He is a good sport.
His new big sister was always around him, making sure we treated him right. She gave him shelter and offered protection; she became his cuddle buddy.
…

…
Vader felt at home right from the start. He was smart and quickly adjusted to our rules. He had only one accident, and then he understood what we wanted from him.
To this day, he sleeps on his back, but the mattress is now different. Now he curls up at night in my bedroom, on his oversized dog pillow, until 3 or 4 am, then he wimpers quietly beside my bed. A sleepy “Come on, boy,” a quick jump, and he curls up on the blanket at the foot of my bed.
He is the best dog and we love him dearly.
…

…
The puppy stage was over too quickly, and his teenage months went by almost uneventfully.
Of course, even the most perfect dog has moments when he is tempted to do something goofy, and now looking back, I am glad it happened.
…

…
He is now three years old, weighs 80 lbs, and we think he is a very handsome boy.

We are so glad he walked into our lives.

Aww…he is a good doggie! I am glad you have each other!
We were very fortunate, all of us. Thank you, Leigha.
You are welcome.
“To this day, every time he looks at me, I feel like I’ve been given permission to look into his soul.”
I agree – he is so ‘open’. What a gorgeous fellow he is.
His eyes are special. He gets me each and ever time he lets me in.
Lovely story of mutual trust
Such a great way of explaining our relationship. “Mutual trust.”
A rough start, but what a blessing that he found you.
He was lucky, but so were we. Thank you, Edward.
You’re so welcome.
Thanks for the positive and smile uplifting read.
You are so welcome. I am glad you enjoyed it and now I am smiling too.
A good fit on both sides obviously making life o much more relaxed and happy . . . keep nodding and smiling at each other . . . do 🙂 !
You are absolutely correct. We are the perfect fit for each other. It couldn’t have gone any better if we would have planned it.
Bridget…thank you for sharing with us. I agree…what a handsome boy. And this…oh my. I felt these words:
“To this day, every time he looks at me, I feel like I’ve been given permission to look into his soul.” 💕
Thank you, Victoria. I am so glad you liked what I wrote about his soul. So many people believe animals don’t have a soul or feelings. They are wrong, very, very, wrong.
I’m with you…agree, agree! Xo! 🥰❤️🥰
It was very kind of you to have adopted a homeless puppy. It’s wonderful to learn you’ve been rewarded with his companionship and devotion. He’s a lucky dog! 🙂
We are the lucky ones. We had multiple dogs throughout the year but he is special in so many ways. It was perfect timing. Our oldest dog had left us and we were just playing around with the idea to adopt another one, when I got the call if we could take an abandoned puppy in. Funny, how this works sometimes.
Adorable puppy!
Thank you, Chantel. He is a very handsome boy, with a very kind soul.
thank you for sharing your pup with us. you can see in his eyes what a sweet soul he has. dogs amaze me in their ability and willingness to trust people even after having been treated poorly. I’m so very glad he found you and bless you for opening your heart to him. enjoy your time together.
I agree with you. I think you can see it in his eyes. He had scares when we got him, the white on his nose is a healed a scar, the fur at a black dog grown back white. He has two other ones on his hind legs, like someone had tied him up with something that ripped into his flesh. He was not even three months old when we got him and the wounds had already healed, so he must have gotten them when he was a very little puppy. I am very grateful that they at least did the right thing and they left him behind in a maintenance room where he would be found. We enjoy our time together. I am entirely grateful.
Thank you for allowing us a short time with this handsome fellow!
Every now and then I have to show off 🙂 He is a very handsome boy.
What a sweet story! Your Vader is a beautiful, lucky doggie ❤️
Thank you, Lisa.
He is indeed a handsome boy. I can see by his eyes he is a kind soul. How lucky he came into your lives. We have two rescue dogs and love them to bits.
We have a bumper sticker on the car “Who rescued who” with a paw print. It couldn’t be more true.
Perfect!!
Aw, this is so wonderful! A very handsome dog!
Thank you, John. I am glad you enjoyed Vader’s pictures.
You’re welcome. ☺️
I really don’t understand people that abandon (and mistreat) pets. Lucky he’s fallen on his feet.
I don’t understand it either, but I am glad he was left at a spot where they knew he would be found.
Vader is a beautiful dawg. His is blessed by finding a loving and happy home. Thanks for sharing this story with us.
We are the blessed ones. 🙂
I bet you’re spoiled too. 😁
Oh my he is one handsome (and lucky!) dude! I love the picture of him with his ball. And so nice that he has a big sister to show him the ropes. Probably the best thing that happened to him was to be abandoned so he could come live with you.
We all got lucky. It was perfect timing, all of it. I wish I could write a letter to the people who abandoned him, to thank them. They missed out and we gained so much.
