That was fun. I had to look it up and come to find out, the charts in Austria -where I come from- started in 1965, two years after I was born. The realization, that I am older than the hit charts in my country made me laugh hard. Now I feel older than dirt.
But, we listened to Italian radio stations as well as the ones from Germany. So here it is, the jewel from 1963, the month I was born.
A young singer named Gitte, who wanted a Cowboy for a husband
I Want a Cowboy for a Husband
I want a cowboy for a husband
I want a cowboy for a husband
It has nothing to do with the way he shoots
Rather, it has to do with the way he kisses
I want a cowboy for a husbandMom says: “Now’s the time,
You need a husband, and today would be best!
Go for the boy next door
He works for the railroad!”
And I cry: No no no no no,
With him, I wouldn’t be happy anymore“Why on earth not,
Think of the security,
And the pretty pension
From the railroad,
what else could you want?”I want a cowboy for a husband
I want a cowboy for a husband
It has nothing to do with the way he shoots
Rather, it has to do with the way he kisses
I want a cowboy for a husbandDad says: If I was so beautiful,
and had a figure like Loren
I’d take the first film producer
That came along for a husband.
And I cry: No no no no no,
With him, I wouldn’t be happy anymore“But I don’t understand,
Why not a guy from the movie business?
One day you’ll be better off than your father,
what else could you want?”I want a cowboy for a husband
I want a cowboy for a husband
It has nothing to do with the way he shoots
Rather, it has to do with the way he kisses
I want a cowboy for a husband
Thoughtful and deep lyrics indeed. Does the song relate to me. As funny as it is, it does, considering that I did marry an American man. He wasn’t a really a Cowboy, but he could kiss. :-).
Thank you, good one, made me laugh hard~!
What was the #1 song when you were born? (not sure? you can find out here.) Write about how the song relates (or not!) to your personality.

But I must admit that in my experience, cowboys are great kissers!!!
Should put it on my bucket list “Kiss a cowboy” 🙂
I concede. Your lyrics are more ridiculous than mine!!! Are you proud?
I got a good laugh. Many of the lyrics back than were highly questionable. Just think about “Obladi oblada” and others.
One can never underestimate the power of a good kiss! I love this post! G-uno
Thank you~!
Most welcome! G-uno
I did something similar to this a few weeks ago. They’re kind of interesting as well as fun. Never heard of that song. How’s you find the words in English?
I either look for a translation or translate it myself.
Cool!
It probably is up there with “she loves me, yeah, yeah, yeah.” You just can’t beat those pop tune lyrics for depth and poetry 😀
Yep, right up there.
Unbelievable what horrible songs were popular back then. I’d never heard my #1 and could have lived without hearing it now, but it did give us something to write about. Right? udydykstrabrown.com/2015/09/02/las-mananitas-and-other-less-lovely-bastardizations-of-the-spanish-language/
The fact that charts where not even existing in Austria made me laugh hard. Talk about feeling old lol. The song and the lyrics…too funny.
So hope you looked on the charts of another country whose music you might have been listening to.
I grew up bilingual between Austria/Italy and we did listen to the German radio station, since it was so near. I remember the song. It did make me laugh today.
Martha clued me in that it was an Italian song so now i have to calm my dander down!!!
The song was actually sung in German ..sorry.
Oh no…I’m talking about the song I wrote about…that I thought was supposed to sound like Spanish even though the only word that made sense was Chihuahua. She says it is an Italian lullaby. Don’t know how the dog got in there…ha.
