“Don’t be scared, just drive through and pedal fast,” was the advice I have been given when I was just a little girl.
Back then I was scared of the nearby forest. Only I knew about the monsters; only I was able to see the faces in the trees.
So many years have passed since then and I feel the same way; nothing has changed. This foot tunnel doesn’t look inviting, and once again I start to imagine things.
I can see the light at the end; I don’t have to be afraid.
Still, I will paddle fast–just in case.

Friday Fictioneers are held by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. It’s a great challenge to make every word count. A 100-word photo challenge is joined by many real talented writers and reading their fictional stories is as much fun as writing.

Spooky. We have a number of covered bridges in Pittsburgh and a few sort of look like this picture. I got chills reading this – well done!
Yes, what everyone else said. I can feel the old fears creep up just by reading. Well told.
I agree with Rochelle. So many childhood memories stick when they should be long gone. Nicely captured.
I like the expression “foot tunnel.” First time hearing that! 🙂👍
Really? Oh dear, did I use a wrong word? I know it as foot tunnel. Hmmm now I have to think about it. Good to see you Jason. 🙂
It’s foot tunnel! I’ve just never seen it somehow lol! 😉
🙂
I hope you have a safe and good weekend!
You too 🙂
Nice one, Bridget! It conjures up a lot of reflexive behaviour we all still have … like Elusive Trope said, the basement stairs come to mind!!
Funny how things stick with us, regardless how old we are.
kind of like me walking (quickly) up the basement stairs…
Don’t get me started on that 😉
Funny how those scary feelings stick to places. 🙂 Is it us or the place?
It’s our mind I suppose. The fears of the childhood never go completely away, they are tucked in a corner of our conscience and come out when (not) needed.
I can feel that urgency, nice job
Nicely written!
Thank you so much! Welcome to my blog. Nice to meet you!
Same here. I cordially invite you at my site. Hope you will enjoy my writings their
Me too, just in case
*grin* it never hurts
Dear Bridget,
Some of those childhood fears take root. I’m with her. Pedal faster. Nicely done. .
Shalom,
Rochelle
Oh, Rochelle, this forest will stay with me forever. Maybe that’s the reason why I am so fast on my bike?
Have a great day,
Bridget
