Eyes and Ears – Friday Fictioneers

Photo prompt Shaktiki Sharma

“We lose a few, but most of them can do their job without any interruption,” Arthur explained, and I could see why he was so proud of his creation.

It’s the perfect disguise; people don’t bother with an insect that size, they just leave it alone. It can sit there for ours and spy on everything until we get the information we need.

Modern technology has made our life so much easier.

We have eyes and ears in every house since years, and now finally we can monitor the backyards as well.

“Brilliant,” and they thought drones were the problem.

Friday Fictioneers is held by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. It’s a highly addictive photography challenge, check it out but don’t say I didn’t warn you. 🙂

Great take on the prompt. I’m sure these kind of devices already exist

The worry is that it’s probably already happening.

The only thing that may thwart these drones are curious children, eager to investigate an interesting looking bug.

I wonder how many they lose as fish bait. When I was a boy, we used to catch grasshoppers all the time. We used to have thousands of them. Today, I only see a few each summer. It makes me wonder what man did to the environment that impacted their numbers. Clever story.

Ooh, Big Brother is watching! I thought that grasshopper out back yesterday looked a bit suspicious…
We thought along the same lines this week 🙂

A couple of this weeks stories have followed this line. I’m going to be paranoid about insects now! Well written.

Great piece of writing. I was reading Edgar and Lucy this morning and Edgar remarked about how great bugs are because they can walk noiselessly across the floor. Serendipity.

    • They do. We had a caterpillar in the house and only the dogs saw it, my husband and I didn’t hear or see a thing.

This is more factual than most folks think. Google “man made insect drones”.

  15. I think you’re onto something here, Bridget. All the spiders in my house are problem listening to me chuckle at your story and making recordings for the NSA 🙂

    • We chased a rather fast caterpillar last night in our living room. Scary looking insect, even the dogs jumped away. If it was a spy device they will have to replace it. It had an accident 🙂

  16. Dear Bridget,

That’s taking ‘bugging’ to a new level. Well done.
