Opinionated Friday

Yesterday, at a neighborhood meeting, things got out of hand quickly. All of a sudden it got personal. Characters came into questioning, past mistakes were brought up to blog the future from happening.

Name calling, interruptions -all the “good” stuff most of us dislike so much.

Shaming and belittling people, an old trick to change believes or agendas.  As a bystander, I found it painful to listen to and felt embarrassment, even though I wasn’t involved -at first. The loudest shouter is seldom right, we all know that.

A meeting, that was held to discuss changes in our neighborhood, had turned into an argument.

I believe many of us ordinary people are tired of the tone, we so often hear these days. Many of us left the meeting and so did I. You can’t reason with people who can’t control their temper and their behavior. Nothing had been accomplished, nothing had been solved -everything had been put on hold so it seemed.

Today in the morning emails were written, phone calls were made and now, most of us are behind the man who was bullied and belittled last night. It’s funny how it works sometimes.

I particularly like the 2nd quote. I will have to remember that one. When a disagreement devolves into belittling and name calling, it has gone completely off the rails. I hope clearer heads can now prevail and the issue moved forward without so much animosity.

    • I believe clearer heads have prevailed and we will move forward. We will also introduce new rules and hope that all future meetings will be peaceful.

Whoever was chairing the meeting failed in their responsibility to maintain order … unless the chairperson was one of the parties involved?

        • I can’t tell, but I know it will be different in the future. Too many people were upset. We should not mirror our leaders behavior.

Awful- the worst in people come out when there are disagreements. Some of the local towns have neighborhood watches, but sometimes it brings out the vigilantes… and doesn’t end well.

Well that sucks. Thought adults could learn to be grownups. No one should be belittling anyone. I am pleased that most of you are behind the guy getting figuratively beat up. What was the issue that brought all these emotions to the forefront?

    • A neighborhood watch that we want to start. We didn’t ask permission.
