It is why I quit my profession in the very beginning. This job requires putting down rather than healing. Veterinary is not for everyone.

    • All cannot (and should not) be healed. Look at all the poor humans who are guinea pigs of the pharmaceutical industry.

Hardest thing was feeling the life go out of my sweet cat…but I held him tight the whole time and told him I loved him. Can’t image an owner not being there – heartless.

My son and daughter-in-law have just suffered from their cat loss…
I know they stayed with him until his very last moment not to leave him alone…….
How could they you do differently?

    • I suppose its the easy way out, what doesn’t prevent us from grieving. I don’t understand it either.

This is why I decided I couldn’t handle loosing a dog at this time in my life. I also realize I wouldn’t make a good nurse for this reason. I feel the pain of others too much. This is a beautiful reminder from someone who knows that we need to be there.

    • There are so many senior dogs and cats waiting for a senior to adopt them to enjoy aging together. Pain and grief is a part of life, but only a small part. You should not let the fear of loss dictate your life.

I’ve never left a pet but I’ve had to bring someone else with me, because I fall apart. I teared up reading this thoughtful message, and I dread the day our current “best pal” takes her last journey to the Vet. I get a little worked up when I even think about it. 🙁

    • We have two senior dogs ourselves and I know we have only limited time left. But it’s my duty to be there, I wouldn’t want it any other way and like you. I fall to pieces afterward -so does my husband.
