Song Lyric Sunday -Goodbye for Grandma

Greece Travel Guide | Earth Trekkers

I am an American and love this country with all my heart, but I also have a European Austrian-Italian soul. I am following Sunday Lyrics for a while but only posted once. My original splendid evening idea to post European songs every Sunday, didn’t seem to make too much sense the next day. Nevertheless, it didn’t leave me alone.

Today is the day. Today I feel brave and I decided to follow my instinct. I have so many European songs on my playlist and a nice collection of old lyrics on my mind. Why not share them?

Song Lyric Sunday today asks us to post a song including the words Arrivederci, Bon-voyage, Ciao, Farewell, Goodbye, Hasta la vista, Sayonara or Shalom in the title or the lyrics and my heart started beating faster.

Goodbye my Love sung by Demis Roussos, a Greek singer, was my Grandma’s favorite. I always rolled my eyes when she played his records because that’s what teenagers are supposed to do, but secretly I liked him too. There was something about his voice that touched me.

Songwriter  Leo Leandros, Klaus Munro – Released 1973, Singer Demis Roussous

Hear the wind sing a sad, old song
It knows I’m leaving you today
Please don’t cry or my heart will break
When I go on my way

Goodbye my love, goodbye
Goodbye and au revoir
As long as you remember me
I’ll never be too far
Goodbye my love, goodbye
I always will be true
So hold me in your dreams
‘Til I come back to you

See the stars in the skies above
They’ll shine wherever I may roam
I will pray every lonely night
That soon they’ll guide me home

Goodbye my love, goodbye
Goodbye and au revoir
As long as you remember me
I’ll never be too far
Goodbye my love, goodbye
I always will be true
So hold me in your dreams
‘Til I come back to you

Goodbye my love, goodbye
Goodbye and au revoir
As long as you remember me
I’ll never be too far
Goodbye my love, goodbye
I always will be true
So hold me in your dreams
‘Til I come back to you

My second song, is from a Greek Lady who is still on my playlist to this day. Nana Mouskouri, also from Greece. Sadly not very well known here either, even though she made stunning covers with Harry Belafonte. Album In the Greek Theater. She has recorded songs in eleven languages all over the world.

So I hope you enjoy a short trip to Europe. We might meet again next week.

I’ve always enjoyed tuning in to international music and especially in the very early days of the Internet when I discovered I could find easily find live radio stations around the world I was simply fascinated. Captivated, really! I listened to both artists and really enjoyed them. Somehow I recognized Nana Mouskouri, but I’m not sure how. I’ll look forward to other artists as you introduce them to us!

    • Nana Mouskouri and Harry Belafonte made great song covers together. She had English albums with famous songs, so I wouldn’t be suprised that you heard of her.
I have always been drawn to international music, just like you. The world is such an interesting place.

  5. Demis Roussos sang some high-pitched pop and I read that he was world renown for his music, but he is new to me. I just read that Nana Mouskouri is the biggest-selling Greek singer of all time and because she sang in 6 different languages she reached people all over the world. Nice music, stop back again.

    • Oh my goodness, I am so glad you took your time to leave a comment. Thank you! Demis was hot when I was a girl in the ’70s.
