It’s us and our expectations who make all the fuzz, time itself passes quietly, from day to night, day in day out. Weeks and months depart, then the old year tries to leave at midnight when we are supposed to sleep, but we don’t let it. We stay up, watch it leave, kick it in the rare, tell it to go away and never come back. Another bad year, like so many before. We expected more, we deserve better. “Go away old year, I will forget you.”
"Time has no divisions to mark its passage, there is never a thunderstorm or blare of trumpets to announce the beginning of a new month or year. Even when a new century begins it is only we mortals who ring bells and fire off pistols." Thomas Mann
We await the new year with hope in our eyes and longing in our hearts. It will be better. It has to be. Fireworks brighten the sky, to announce the arrival of better times.
Another twelve months will be given to most of us. 365 wonderful days to fulfill dreams, reach goals, find love, make peace, spread joy. Resolutions are set in place, promises are made. We set the bar high -everything will be better, now since the old year has finally come to an end.
Maybe we don’t need the firework for the New Year, but should thank the old year for everything it has given us. The year never disappoints, we do. Some have lost a loved one, others have given birth. Both lives should be celebrated.
Like we say “Grace” on Thanksgiving, perhaps we should look back and thank the old year.
Twelve new months were given to us so freely in January. Did we make the most of it?

Wishing you a happy and healthy 2022 ♥🤗
Same to you 🙂
While so many of us are grousing about what a rough year it has been, here you are with such a helpful and uplifting perspective. Thank you, Bridget. And all my best wishes for the coming year to you and your husband.
I felt the same way and then I started thinking. It wasn’t all bad, quite the contrary. It just seems that negativity got louder in recent years and perhaps now I have to shout out the good I see. 🙂 Be healthy and happy my friend! May you have a good laugh every day.
Thank you for sharing your optimism. We all hope for the best in the coming year. Your bar for that is pretty high. My bar for that is pretty low. We’ll see at the end of the year where in the middle we can meet?
Maybe that’s why you stayed for so long in an unhappy marriage, because you always set the bar too low?
It was hard to say I actually liked your comment but it is so true! One of the self-help/writing programs I have started recently is presenting this month on the topic of self-trust. That quality is something I really need to rebuild and especially in the light of your comment re my standards!
Health & Happiness to you in 2022!

Happy New Year! 🎆🎇✨
I don’t wait for the old year to come to a conclusion anymore. I just hope for each new day to be as good as it possibly can be, with good health, good people, and good things. I wish that you me, and I wish that for you and yours Bridget. 💜
I think that’s what we all should do, live each day to the fullest and be grateful for it.
Very well written! Wishing you happy new year! 💓🤗stay happy.
Happy New Year, Priti! 🎆🎇
