It’s a fence hook, securing a wire that. It had been put in a tree that served as a fence post. I love the glass hooks, they always fascinated me.
I thought this was the function of it, but this is the first time I have come across a glass hook!
They were very common when I was young, as were porcelain hooks, but the cheap plastic ones took over.
