I dreamt of bright flowers
that blossom in May;
I dreamt of green meadows
and merry bird-calls.
And when the cocks crowed
my eyes awoke:
it was cold and dark,
ravens cawed from the roof.
But there, on the window panes,
who had painted the leaves?
Are you laughing at the dreamer
who saw flowers in winter?
I dreamt of mutual love,
of a lovely maiden,
of embracing and kissing,
of joy and rapture.
And when the cocks crowed
my heart awoke;
now I sit here alone
and reflect upon my dream.
I close my eyes again,
my heart still beats so warmly.
Leaves on my window, when will you turn green?
When shall I hold my love in my arms?
“Dream of Spring” Franz Schubert (1827)
Part of a series called “Winter journey”

Beautiful! And I’m dreaming of spring, too. This has been the coldest winter I’ve ever experienced in Southern California and I’ve had enough. LOL!
And we had another mild winter, just a few snow days 🙁

It is a treat to be reminded of this beautiful music.
I was hoping it would be a special treat.
Ah – Franz Schubert- there was some family myth that we were related to this fine fellow. The only evidence I found was that he passed through the village where my great great grandfather was supposedly born…
So this was a poem or a song he wrote – or both perhaps?
If I am not totally mistaken, it was a collaboration between Franz Schubert and a poet.
As for your relationship with Franz Schubert, it’s a good one. 🙂
Thank you for this treat
You are very welcome.
A lovely dream to have each year!
One day, of course not today, I will confess that I love winter and the darker seasons. 🙂
Yes, but a proper Austrian Winter, not a wet and miserable one such as we have here!
❄❄
Soon the dream will be real!
Good one.
I dream of spring as well friend!
I think we all do. I get restless when I hear the birds outside. Our yard is a bloody mess. Time for spring cleaning inside and outside.
I am most assuredly restless, and my yard is chais as well!.
So beautiful, and spring is not so far away!! 🙂
You are so right. I can hear the birds already in the morning.
