Do you know what summer smells like?

Like pears and carnations,
apples and plums,
forget-me-nots
withering in the sun

Hot sand and cool lakes
and wet swimming trunks

sand castles and sunscreen
street dust and roses.

Do you know what summer tastes like?

Yellow apricots
and melons
and wild strawberries

hidden between grass and mosses

Raspberries, blueberries
and ice cream made from chocolate
fresh hay in the fields
and refreshing lemonade

Do you know what summer sounds like?

A flute tune that penetrates
through the midday silence
a bird chirps softly
an apple falls muffled into the grass

Wind rustles in the trees
a child laughing
then it quickly falls silent
and enjoys the smell of summer

    • I am looking at the temperatures in California and Arizona every day. It must be brutal. Stay inside and be kind to yourself.

It’s been really hot but I’m comfortable– until I get ready to pay the utility company’s bill soon. I think it will be a doozy! 😉

Beautiful Sensory summer. Here we just rolled through the scent of canola (rapeseed) flowers in the fields. Now the clover and alfalfa are kicking in. Buzzing bees are everywhere and the peaches and corn are divine. Happy Tuesday. Allan

  8. The child in you did a wonderful job Bridget. The picture brought back memories of stacking the sheaves of corn and building haystacks. Blissful thoughts!

    • I do too. It’s how I remember the summers when I was a farm child. Wildflowers, hay, lemonade and blue sky.
