I am always on Israel’s side. I have to be, that’s how all Europeans of my generation were brought up. Especially girls like me, who are from Austria or Germany.
The sins of our fathers and grandfathers. We heard about it and learned about it in school. We were urged to be loyal to Jews, they needed our protection and our commitment. There was never a question on my mind, it was so obvious. We owed it to the Jewish people for the crimes our forefathers committed.
Over six million Jewish people had lost their lives and thousands and thousands lost their homes during World War II. Derooted from the places they were raised and lived, they were forced to flee from the Nazi regime and their huntsman.
My solidarity was implanted in me from an early age. Knowing that my own grandmother was part Jewish and could have lost her life during WWII, made it crystal clear where my loyalty had to be.
Thirty years later, I started to question why we still paid money to Israel. What exactly was the number of the debt we owed? And most importantly, isn’t blind loyalty without asking questions dangerous? Isn’t it exactly what caused all the harm to the Jewish people to begin with. A blind loyalty to a Fuehrer/Leader?
The United States has now vetoed twice a resolution calling for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war at the United Nations Security Council. The Security Council vote on the resolution, backed by Arab states, had 13 in favor and one the U.S. against, while the United Kingdom abstained.
I don’t understand how anybody at the present time could possibly vote against a truce or abstain from voting.
I want to type “I don’t understand the world anymore” but that’s not true. The world is just fine, it’s us humans, my own kind, that I don’t understand.
Israel -Hamas and Gaza. Where do I stand and what does it have to do with my mission in life?
Pleading for Peace in Israel and Palestine
My mission in life? I wasn’t sure at first. It has changed so often. It seems every decade of my life has a different mission statement.
Perhaps the latest is the most honest and the most important.
I am most and foremost human and I stand with humanity…always. May I never forget what I just wrote. May I never be forced to act any other way than human. May we all find our way back and act human and humane toward all.
My mission is to stay human and to act humane

Well said. Acting with humanity is the most important thing. Even if the other side sometimes don’t. Cruelty and brutality breed same.
This is lovely Bridget! Such an important mission for all of us to do!
As someone above said, a very honorable mission, one we should all adopt.
Good questions and an excellent, honorable mission.
I stand by it. Brilliant article.
Thank you
Your most welcome.
I wish I had the answer
Maybe there in none 🙁
This is it. Right here. This is the mission and should be for us all.
And it only took me 60 years to figure it out all by myself 🙂
LOL! Hey, I just figured it out today after reading your post. 😂😳😍
The best possible mission you could have!
I think so, I am fed up with all the cruelty I see all around this globe. Perhaps that’s how life works? Finally, when we have it all figured it out, we are ready to leave 🙂
You make a good point.
Thank you, Anne
