It’s tough To Be Creative~!

“Where is the kitchen fairy when you need her,” is a phrase I use regularly. The idea of a tiny pixie doing my dishes amuses me.

With more than 12 hours left on my 99-cent AI trial period, my imagination went wild. “Let’s see what the artificial intelligence can come up with,” I mumbled to myself and started typing.

Fairy doing the dishes and the above picture was created in just a few seconds.

“Cute, but way too happy,” was my verdict. Too flowery, too fairy-like, too bright, too cheerful, too much of everything. Doing the dishes is only pleasant when you are a newlywed or as a child, when you know another shiny quarter will find its way into your piggybank, a token of appreciation for helping.

My kitchen fairy had to be more realistic.

‘A fairy in the kitchen doing the dishes in the evening by candlelight’ was my next text and sure enough, it all went dark. Also, the fairy had grown quite a bit. Now no longer a pixie, but the size of a human adult she seemed lost in her work.

It seems AI doesn’t know how to do the dishes or why the fairy is poking around at the bottom of the bowl with a stick and most importantly, why is there no water in the sink?

“Hello AI doing the dishes still requires water, even in fairyland right?” Also, the fairy was too big. She looked a lot like Cinderella with wings. I needed to change that.

‘A tiny fairy in the kitchen doing the dishes in the evening by candlelight,’ I typed…

…and the fairy shrunk back to fairy size. Now she was standing in the sink? Why? Is she taking a bath? Is she waiting for the big waterdrop to fall on her head? (Finally, there is a drop of water.) And where are the dishes? I wanted to see her at work and sweat. All the little tealights on the counter. What’s up with that?

Way too romantic. This fairy had to go, but what next?

How about an overweight fairy?

WTH? Why is the overweight fairy wearing the least clothing of all of them? While the others before her wore dresses, she is the only one wearing a tiny skirt and a short lace top. ‘Body Acceptance’ I suppose?

And what is she standing on? Can she walk on water? But no, of course not, again, there is no water. Does AI really not know how to do the dishes? And, please look at her toes, a reader pointed it out to me. Yes, there are ten, at least they got that right.

Creating the kitchen fairy of my dreams turned out to be more complicated than I had anticipated.

How about a modern fairy, more diverse. A fairy with a darker skin color maybe? And so I typed…

‘A tiny tired black fairy in the kitchen doing the dishes in the evening by candlelight’

It took a while and then the result came.

I exploded with laughter. I had expected a picture of an African American (black) fairy and what did I get? Is this supposed to be an evil fairy who just sits around?

No wait, she has a white face, but black arms and feet. There you go. Your first biracial AI fairy!

I got the giggle out of the last picture.

Still no water in the sink but, the fairy’s facial impression now comes close to mine when I look at the dishes. Yes, indeed she looks tired.

She looks stubborn too don’t you think?

This was fun, but AI and I will no longer work together. The 99-cent trial was a one-night stand so to speak, even though it was two days. 🙂

Yeah, AI is not perfect and needs lots of instruction sometimes to get it right. Personally I loved the overweight fairy and her sad expression! The eyes and fingers (in your case the toes) are usually the thing they have most trouble with. This was a fun experiment you shared.

There’s a lot of whimsy in playing around with the AI technology. I haven’t tried it yet, but this looks like fun. I note on some social media sites, however, there are often weird errors like too many fingers or some other oddity that just makes the photo feel off. In time, as this technology improves and becomes mainstream, we may have some real trouble discerning what is real. What a fun post, Bridget!

    • Playing with AI was something I needed to get out of my system 🙂
I overlooked the six toes. A reader brought it to my attention. I was too shocked to see the overweight fairy in a bikini like outfit. I didn’t pay any attention to her six toes :-).

  3. People should learn to appreciate the real fairy in their mother or wife doing the dishes at home!

    • I had a hunch and to be honest, I think I needed to get it out of my system.

AI can be a pain if you don’t prompt it to it’s thinking. Try, try, and try again provides pics close sometimes lol, great job with the images Bridget.

    • I had fun with it for 48 hrs during the 99c trial, but that will be it. I think it will be a great tool for many, but it’s not for me. I don’t like the results. Childlike perfect drawings of animals, humans and things? I have wrinkles around my eyes and small freckles over my nose, our dog Vader has a small white scar over his nose, and one ear is longer.

We are not perfect and I love it.

It needs to be a nail in all this avoidance of putting in the work, like Meta’s plan to have a virtual space where avatars can interact. How long before the first assault takes place in the virtual space?

  9. Slightly altering your image requests was a clever way of checking out AI. 🙂
