R.I.P Maggie Smith –

“The lukewarm piss” made me laugh when I watched the movie “The Second Best Marigold Hotel” for the first time. I love tea, and just like her I never understood why so many first-class hotels and restaurants all over the world don’t know how to serve tea correctly.

Dame Margaret Natalie Smith, to all of us simply known as Maggie Smith will be missed. She died today, at the age of 89.

I adored and admired her in so many movies.

She is one of my favorite actresses! (Refusing to use past tense because she will continue to be one of my favorites).

Her voice, her facial expressions, she was a master of her craft. She drew me in, no matter if she played Muriel Donnely in “The Exotic Marigold Hotel” or if she surprised us all as Minerva McGonagall in “Harry Potter.” Just like fine wine, she got better and better with age. From drama to comedy, she did them all and I believe she was a class of her own.

My husband, who didn’t know her well, fell in love with her when she played Violet Crawley, The Dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey.

Generations of viewers will continue to fall in love with her, no doubt about it.

Wherever she is, or wanted to be after death, I hope there will be boiling water. 🙂

RIP Maggie Smith

  2. A fine tribute. I had a client who looked like her in her younger days. When we finished she gave me a print which I framed. I have always regretted that it was left behind when my French house was sold

    • Have no regrets. It was left behind because it wasn’t important enough then and perhaps looked perfect in the house. When it wasn’t important then, it shouldn’t be important now. It is what it is.

      • Actually I left much behind because the house was squatted in and I couldn’t face clearing it. All water under the bridge now.

    • The way she explains the tea brewing concept to the poor guy, only she could do that. She was brilliant!

    • She lived to be 89 and she had a long life and a wonderful career. I don’t think we should be sad, I think we should smile when we look at her life. She will be missed!

She didn’t simply play the roles, she transformed them.

This is sad news. I have loved her ever since I saw her in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Her one liners in Downton Abbey were so well delivered. She will be missed but her movies will keep her alive.

She was an honest actor. You got the real performance every time from Maggie. Loved her in Best Marigold Hotel and Downton Abbey. She told it like it was. Not having her in the new season will be sad. Have a good Friday Bridget. Allan

    • The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is full of wonderful, older actors and actresses and they all give a great performance. One of my go-to movies when I don’t feel well and need a cheer up.

        • I didn’t think we would like it, but it’s a great TV series. Winter is coming, that’s a good time to binge watch it
