World Peace Or Endless Icecream?

This question is often found in fairy tales or stories, and the answer is usually associated with something in return. Just like most of us, I have often thought about the three wishes. As a young child, I hoped for a mountain of ice cream and, of course, world peace, because that’s the answer you are supposed to give. (Worldpeace, not the ice cream.)

We live in a time where we can quickly fulfill small wishes -even a mountain of ice cream. We don’t even have to leave our house for it, and it doesn’t require much in return. We sit comfortably at home in front of the screen, make a few clicks, and wait a couple of hours – or a day or two – for the delivery to our front door.

If you ask me what kind of wishes I have, I would say freedom. Now you might think that I live in a country where this desire should not arise at all, but the truth is that upon closer inspection, you are forced to impose limits. As a woman, I often experience these limits, they were made clear to me several times in my already long lifetime. Either by laws or men in power, just so that I know exactly where my place in society is.

I can’t just use the three wishes for me and our little lives, that would be a waste of genie power. No, it has to be something big, something magical that could heal this world. Something similar to world peace perhaps?

So here are my three wishes:

To be honest, my three wishes have been the same for many years. I wish that people treat each other with mindfulness and respect and never violate each other’s dignity. Many laws could be replaced by this one law. My second wish would be the absence of poverty and greed. These two wishes would result in peace. My third wish would be a school subject for life as an individual in society, which also trains how to deal with oneself and teaches social skills that are not always guaranteed at home. Then our lonely, depressed, greedy, envious society would become healthy again.

Hmmm…. less greed, so how about a mountain of ice cream for everyone?! Seriously, good wishes. That first one would go far to changing the world. Lack of respect these days is at an all time high. Now, where is that genie lamp?

    • Most of us know what needs to be done, yet as a society we fail miserably. It’s mindboggling.

  5. A mountain of ice cream, 8 billion spoons! Otherwise a monster flood of chocolate and vanilla goo with traces of strawberry and mint all mixed together with sorbet. Yuck. but it might eradicate hunger for a few days, except for the lactose intolerant.

The sad thing is this: we have enough food for everyone on the planet. The problem is distribution. In the US alone, we throw out more food than all of our hungry citizens could eat. That might be true for many countries.

We have more vacant houses than we have homeless.

There are plenty of jobs, but the requirements are ridiculous. You don’t need an MBA to manage a fast food restaurant. So many of our students are degree rich and in debt up past their eyeballs. Spend 4-6 years in college and then 35 years in debt. Does that make sense?

Education can be done without schools… showing people how to learn and how to think instead of what to learn and think gives them that freedom to indulge their curiosity. You don’t need a piece of paper to show you know stuff. But it’s required at every level in the job market.

How about instead of just respect, we show love to everyone? Love is shown in respect, care, sharing, and serving each other. That would solve some of the homeless, hungry, mentally ill situations we have.

So with Love, and self-education, you still have 1 wish. I wish someone would read my blog.

All worthy wishes. Not sure when the pendulum will swing back to civility.

    • It has to get worse before it gets better. You have to hit rock bottom before you make drastic changes.

We are not there yet but we are working on it 🙁

  7. If we eradicated war and greed / self interest, there would probably be enough to go round for everyone.

Oh…the choice! You’re right, it takes some thought as you wouldn’t want to squander it. Still….a mountain of ice cream…no no no….focus here… Wish #1 Respect. That everyone respects decisions, religions and cultures of everyone else. I hope that in itself would result in world peace. But it wouldn’t solve poverty…so I’d have to use wish #2 to eradicate hunger, that there be enough food readily available for every person. So that leaves wish #3. Can I go for the ice cream now? no no no no…Wish #3 would have to deal with education – that everyone have access to quality education.

So…if everyone respected everyone else, everyone had enough to eat and access to education…it probably still wouldn’t be enough but wouldn’t it be a good start?

    • Thanks for the laugh. The mountain of ice cream is too tempting isn’t it?

Less greed, more sharing. Less hate more caring. Such simple recipes yet we can’t get our sh** together.

      Thank you, Dawn.
