In All Honesty or As Brutal As it Gets

Daily writing prompt
How do significant life events or the passage of time influence your perspective on life?

The view of life, the interpretation of one’s own point of view, in my opinion, is always influenced by the passage of time. The passage of time is always a companion on which the negative of life is dumped. The passage of time is to blame for the fact that the good times are long gone. Everything was better back then, or so it seems.

The passage of time is responsible for the fact that many of our expectations of life end with disappointment over time. Sometimes time gives us a different outlook and the story then leads to a good ending. But then it’s never the course of time that is to blame, but chance.

Time changes us. We seem to understand our lives when we look back and that’s a good thing, as long as we live our lives looking forward.

We adjust and adapt. How many construction sites were first accepted as a nuisance, but then as a permanent condition.

It is probably not so much the events that change our view of life. It is the change in our perception over time.

Beautifully said, Bridget. It is a constant temptation to look backwards at time, I think. I can really feel the pull to sit in my memories and re-live episodes in life I feel were more complete, or happier. But that to me is indeed brutal. Thinking ahead can debilitate, too, so living in the moment, something I don’t do easily, is where I find a tad more contentment. It’s tricky, no matter what! 🤦‍♀️

    • That’s true as well. We automatically always assume we change for the better, and seem to forget the alternative. Good point!
