When I was a kid it was a challenge with the May baskets too – being able to put them on the porch and run so you are not caught with the delivery. At the time it was said if a boy caught a girl or vice versa you could give them a kiss. … no body ever chased me though. 😅 No worries, a good shock.
Really? This is not a universal kid thing everywhere? Did you catch snowflakes on your tongue? Build snowmen and have snowball fights? Try to dig tunnels in large piles or play king of the hill? I am certain you had to have gone sledding. I really had no idea it was not a world wide thing to make snow angels. Ok, so another tradition I have heard somewhat sporadic across the country is May 1st and may baskets. We always did them as kids, my daughter did them some. I know tons of people when I cashiered still came in to buy candy, popcorn, cups and chenille stems (back in the day they were just pipe cleaners) every year to make them. Did you make the little baskets to distribute to friends on May first?
…I am really shocked, I thought everyone did snow angels. I’m going to be shaking my head about this one for days.
I was down with a cold, forgive my late reply. Your reply made me giggle. Yes, snow angels are an American thing, so are the May baskets (never heard about it). We in Austria/Germany have May dances and May trees (I know it doesn’t make sense I will explain it).
I laughed when I saw adults laying in the snow flopping their arms and legs like fishes. I had no idea what they tried to accomplish.
We build igloos and snow caves. Of course we licked icicles and sledding or a horse sled ride is fun as well.
I didn’t mean to shock you.
It’s an American thing, trust me on this. 🙂 We (me now included but not by birth) lay down in the snow, move arms and legs as shown in the pictures and then we get up very carefully, to not trample on the angle silhouette in the snow.

This reminds me of Leonardo’s Vitruvian man
Methinks ‘snow’ meat ‘fun’ in this instance:) !
Good old fashioned American snow angels. I never heard of snow angels before, and I was born/raised in ice and snow.
Huh 🙂 ? I did not know the term until 10 seconds ago – shall look up at the end of the day 🙂 !!!

Honestly and truly, I think I may have heard of the term before but this is the first explanation ever – so thanks !
So cool!
That was a cool moment 🙂
