I was born to fail and lived to prove them all wrong

There you go, this is my life in one sentence. It came to me when I read today’s prompt, and now I am leaning back in my chair on my old desk, and I feel peace inside. This sentence is me, it’s the story of my life.

I was born to fail and lived to prove them all wrong. Yes, this is my being in a nutshell, my biography downsized to a subject line, a bait sentence, the famous lines of a book I haven’t written yet.

People set you up for failure if they don’t want you to succeed because they are afraid you will do better, be better, go further, jump or fly higher, or run faster.

“I don’t think this is for you.” A sentence often spoken when people fear you might break down barriers, whether it be the ones in their heads or the ones our society gives us in the form of regulations and laws we are supposed to follow. I heard the sentence a couple of times in my life, and I always saw it as a challenge.

Failure! Is it the acceptance of the limitations society gives you, or the limits you give yourself?

If I want to become a painter, but I have no talent, no passion, and no patience, and I stop trying, am I a failure, or simply smart enough to understand that not all of us can be a Picasso or Da Vinci?

If I watch my book become a flop, am I a failure as a writer, or is it the logical outcome because I don’t have the money it takes to pay for the marketing my book needs?

We have talents and limitations; to figure out which these are and where they lie, that’s up to us, and it often keeps us busy for a lifetime.

A long time ago, when people built wings for their arms because they wanted to fly like birds, were they stupid or were they curious inventors? Did they fail when they couldn’t fly? Or were they laying the groundwork for todays planes?

It all comes down to perception. Were they failures or lessons?

What’s your definition of success? Winning the rat race? Too late, it’s already won.

The average person will tell you that success is about status, security, and achieving professional and financial goals. No! I say.

Success is more than a measured number.

Hurdles and obstacles exist everywhere in life. As long as you keep moving forward, your perceived failures are simply lessons.

I am living my lessons, and I accept my limitations with grace (I hope).

Yes, I was born to fail and lived to prove them all wrong.

Daily writing prompt
How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?

My book is a new-release for one more day. 90 days tomorrow already:

The thing about failure is to not let it defeat you. There are lots of mountains you can choose to climb! A fabulous answer to this question.

  2. I really like the way you frame failure as perception and lessons rather than defeat. The line “I was born to fail and lived to prove them all wrong” is a strong one.

I think everyone has something (or a lot of things) that they have failed. So in that sense maybe we’re all failures until we find the thing(s) that make our souls soar and that we’re naturally good at, or can get ‘naturally’ good at it with much practice.

    • Thank you, Kymber. That’s quite a statement considering you read it before it was edited and proof-read. I owe you 🙂
Be so nice and consider leaving a review, an honest one, IF you can remember the way it felt to you. How are you?

        • Thank you so much for asking. I am well enough to be goofy and bitchy (not at the same time). -)
I would appreciate your review, but promise me you won’t make me sound better than I am. Here is the link to goodreads. The link to amazon is embedded in the book. You can do both or just one, whatever you feel like it. Take care of your heart.
