Glass Woman
Born fragile
Not able to walk
The head broke first
A small piece fell off
It didn’t matter
They glued it back on
a chip on the shoulder
Came loose later
You can’t see it
It’s hidden underneath
A layer of clothes
The perfect disguise
More scratches
More scars and scrapes
Broken pieces
Missing parts
Fragile I am not
A symbol of strength I am
And Beautiful

Bridget, I’ve published this poem at The Skeptic’s Kaddish – thank you for sharing it with me!

Did you write the poem first? Or base it around the image?
A great metaphor to modern life – gives me the chills.
You are the first one who mentioned the metaphor. I wrote the poem first, then I searched for a glass statue.
Usually it occurs the other way around.
From my experience, it’s quite difficult to find an image that matches the words so perfectly.
I don’t write poems too often. There is a lot to learn I suppose.
so beautiful and so true- strong yet fragile we can be
Is it possible to be fragile and strong at the same time? I think so. We all are.
I think we grow like a Phoenix out of the ashes in moments when we feel totally vulnerable and fragile. Women especially can move mountains…when needed.
Amen! Isn’t that the truth!
Love the shot, and the statue. Broke or not, it’s gorgeous.
So beautifully written! 🙂
Thank you!
You’re very welcome!
Glass women and real women have a lot in common if you survive long enough.
Beautiful! 🙂 <3
