Tears were running down her cheeks. Soon all their belongings would be crammed into a storage unit.
“Just a small hiccup, don’t worry, the bank will work with us,” he had said, and now, somebody else will move into the beautiful house, they had called home for so many years.
Her Dad had warned her, “He is no good,” he had said, but she didn’t want to hear it.
He was a gambler, and now all was lost.
A soft ring interrupts her thoughts; slowly she picks up the phone. It’s him.
“Hello….” she whispers.
“Honey, guess what? You won’t believe it?

Dear Bridget,
You left me hanging with the telephone call. A lot of story in a few words. I wonder if she should trust whatever he’s about to say? Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you Rochelle. You always pick the right photos to get our imagination going.
And then he’ll blow all his winnings on trying to win more. I imagine many gamblers have their stuff in a storage unit.
I suppose you are right. Frightening to think how much an addiction can ruin ones life.
Hopefully this time he has come good, but I doubt it somehow
I assume it’s just a temporary fix.
No, don’t listen to him. Run, run far away. The problem with gamblers they don’t stop even if they have won. There are always more opportunities to lose. Great story. I really felt for her.
Thank you. An old Paul Newman movie gave me the idea. 🙂
How better to use as inspiration!
No, she won’t believe it. But maybe she will if she’s addicted as he is…
Randy
Oh, that would make it even worse.
Oooooo I don’t think she should trust him… No matter his luck now it won’t last. A great story… Very well told.
No, I need to know what happened next…
Lets hope they live happily ever after and he gives up gambling.
Forget this ‘richer or poorer’ stuff … I would have NO tolerance for gambling. Run, Honey, Run!!!
I just watched an old Paul Newman movie, where he lost everything he had in a poker game and then tried to win it back. Can you imagine?
We have a casino close by, where we live. I love to go to restaurant, to eat snow crab legs until I drop under the table.
The amount of people gambling there is scary. The machine always wins, but I guess it’s all about the thrill.
Yeah, I fail to see the thrill. I’ve been to a casino a couple of times. Besides the noise and lights which I find disturbing, it’s mind-numbingly boring.
Apparently I will never have a gambling problem 😉
We go because the buffet is a dream come true and once or twice a year I eat as many snow crab legs as I possibly can. 🙂
I think you can never trust a gambler… maybe it’s time to end it…
I’m guessing he had a big win – let’s hope he doesn’t lose it all again.
I’m gambling on a happy ending.
Perhaps a temporary fix?
I am just going to go ahead and believe it is good news 🙂
Oooh. A cliff-hanger. 🙂
Yes…I run out of words 🙂
Ha ha. It was meant to be. 🙂
Woooooah- talk about a cliffhanger! I know the odds are stacked against the gamblers in a casino, but maybe this can end like one of those “lucky night in vegas” movies, and the douchebag husband wins a fortune on a quarter machine?
Good news? Or did he lose the storage unit too?
Let hope its good news!
Hopefully. I was thinking his gambling actually paid off for once and they were rich….
