It’s the clock for all life here on earth; it shows us how much time we have left to make it right. Once the handle reaches 12 o’clock, it will be all over.
We have tortured this planet, we have tormented and butchered every life form here on earth.
For a while, the clock had gone backward, had given us more time, but now it’s moving forward again.
MIDNIGHT that’s when it will be over for all of us, that’s when the gambling will stop.
When will we understand that we are killing ourselves when we harm everything around us.
Word count: 100
Friday Fictioneers is held by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. Write a complete story in 100-words or less, that’s the goal and so many of us come up with wonderful ideas every week. Reading other posts is as much fun as writing your own response.

Let’s hope we have more time than that. Good writing, Bridget. 🙂 — Suzanne
Well told and sadly accurate
I’m trying to lose weight so I can stick my head between my legs and kiss my ass goodbye. Still got a ways to go, so if you could slow the clock down just a bit, I’d appreciate it. 🙂
It’s not up to me I am afraid, but I will try. 🙂
Depressingly accurate. Well done.
I get a sense of acceptance in this piece, one of we did the deed and now suffer the consequences. Well done.
Acceptance, not really more capitulation.
The doomsday clock inches ever closer to midnight, indeed. A dark place to take such a sunny photo, but I’m a sucker for dystopian fiction.
Yes, we are three minutes before midnight so they say. Scary thought.
(shiver)
That’s a true crie de coeur.
Great story!
This is getting freaky – once again we have written very similar stories 🙂
Hey as long as I write it first I am fine with it *just kidding*. Read your piece and loved it.
If things keep going the way they are, we might hit midnight while some unmentionable is president of this country….
Don’t get me started Trent.
Yeah, I know…
So many do not seem to care, it seems that human beings are unable to stop and think, let alone change.
I fear they will be willing to change when there will be no other choice.
Dear Bridget,
Sharp, concise cautionary message. I was going to call it a tale, but it’s too close to the truth to be called that. Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
That’s a very nice comment my dear Rochelle. I think you just made my day.
We are a stubborn species. And we’ve acted so ruthlessly against our Green Mother that I doubt that clock will ever turn back. Midnight is coming…
I am afraid you are right.
Nice amount of tension in this.
Excellent Bridget.. And I feel this is not fiction but FACT.. xxxx
The clock is fiction the rest is indeed reality.
Yes exactly…
Wow. What a message you have given us in your piece today. Well done.
Thank you so much. It felt right writing it.
To think that when we cease to torture our half planet , there’s the other hemisphere that starts….
Anyway , your 100 words are awesome!
It surprises me each week how much I can I say with just 100 words. You should read the other posts, or perhaps not, you won’t like mine anymore. 🙂
But even if I don’t comment I read them!
And you’re great with your writing…!
Great idea. I think there is such a doomsday clock to measure how close the world is to nuclear war breaking out – it recently moved closer to midnight too…
There really is such a thing as the Doomsday Clock which is maintained by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. Ever since 1947, it has been “set” to indicate how near or far it is estimated we are from nuclear war: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomsday_Clock
Truth rings through every word of your story. Sadly, we are too close to midnight. Nicely done.
A true story, Bridget, and tragic. To admit that we are initiating our own doom would require such a huge commitment to change for those in control that it’s easier to deny the facts. Denial is amazingly powerful.
I agree
