I knew they existed but didn’t know one was in my neighborhood, just a few houses down. While my husband and I are busy feeding the birds in our yard, our neighbor Tom ensures the birds find more than dried fruits and bird seeds.

My quest to help save this planet was doomed to fail right from the start. “Put the lunch meat and the cheese in my containers, no plastic bags, please,” and with a determined, but not confident smile I handed her my food containers, yet she didn’t take them.
I couldn’t help myself and had to waste my money and order a re-usable straw. What a great idea, but not if you have only one. Come to find out, it was never ready to be used when I needed it. Either I was out and the straw was at home, or I was at home but the straw had decided to nap in my workroom.


The amount of wrapping paper that many people use and then throw away around Christmas time is mindblowing. Rolls of glittery paper are being cut up, trashcans are overflowing at the 25th of December, even though it’s so easy to find environmental friendly ideas.

Our yard is a mess right now. The weather doesn’t help, it’s cloudy and cold. It had rained all night long, dirt had been washed on the walkways. Everything has turned green already and lots of it are weeds. Every year I pull them all and every year they come back -all of it. It’s a race or a competition, and I am not so sure if I will ever win.
