The day after my birthday I fell hard and sadly, I fell forward, not backward as I was trained to do when I was an active skier. I would have preferred a soft landing on my bottom but it didn’t happen.

We all have childhood memories triggered by certain smells from a kitchen or the sight of a dish we haven’t seen in a long time. I am no exception. I love the smell of roasted chestnuts or freshly baked apple pie like everybody else. But in my case, it’s much simpler. There is no smell, no sight of cake, torte, or roast that transports me back to my childhood as quickly as a jar of chocolate spread.

When I turned 40, friends placed a large sign in our front yard, and neighbors driving by honked. Lordy, lordy, look who turned 40 it read. When I turned 50, I got the funniest cards, and all made fun of my age, but for my 60th, no one dared to do that. That kind of speaks for itself. I guess it means

In less than two weeks on November 7th, I will celebrate my 60th birthday and I am struggling. Not so much with the number itself, even though I don’t completely understand how it happened. Wasn’t it just a couple of years ago that I celebrated being 50 years young?

We don’t know his birthday. We took him in on August 5th, 2022 when he was approximately three months old, and decided a few months later that May 5th will be known to the world as Vader’s birthday, which makes today his first birthday.

Today in the morning we celebrated his 1st BAB (Birthday after bypass), the first of hopefully many more to come.
Last year right about the same time I am writing this, I was hiding in the chapel of the hospital, which amused a lot of people for months. No, the sky did not fall down on me, neither was I hit by lightning. It simply was the quietest place I could find, far away from nurses and doctors I was able to listen to music during a long time of waiting.

I watched my husband coloring a printed easter egg, carefully he chalked the lines of the little flowers in the egg, made sure they all had different colors. Six of our painted eggs hang on our front windows, so the kids could have an easter egg-counting-hunt, by foot, walking with their parents, or riding in the car, because of the moody April weather.
