Whenever it rained, I walked funny. I wore my rubber boots with pride. I liked to play in the ditch behind our farm where I caught tadpoles in spring. But when it rained, I clenched my toes inside my boots, in case a worm would accidentally find its way into my shoe. The logic of a child. My grandma let me walk funny, she knew I would grow out of it.

I knew they existed but didn’t know one was in my neighborhood, just a few houses down. While my husband and I are busy feeding the birds in our yard, our neighbor Tom ensures the birds find more than dried fruits and bird seeds.

Time to plan my garden for this year. As always we will have lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, squash, onions and of course my beloved kale. There is a corner just for herbs, and another spot is reserved for some newcomers, that we just have to try.
