Oh, New Year’s Resolutions!

For the first time in many years, I have a New Years resolutions -well, not just one, actually I have a few. Nothing dramatic, just little things I wish to change to improve myself.

My eating is out of control

I eat in front of the computer, and I decided it has to stop. I chewed through salads and gluten-free sandwiches while reading the news -what can’t be healthy, considering what kind of stories we have to deal with since last year.  It made me sick to my stomach, it left me feeling nauseated…still I continued eating in front of my screen. Sometimes I outdid myself, and I even typed, what is probably the worst eating behavior…EVER.

So, from now on -right after I am done with this cookie- no more computer-eating. (A cookie is not considered food, right?)

I am going to eat at the dining room table, like a big girl, or perhaps standing over the sink in the kitchen (I perfected this technique years ago.) This is going to be a tough one, but I am determined -for now.

Bye bye binge-watching nightmares

My husband has to get up early and often goes to bed before I do. Not feeling tired at all,  I started to watch TV series, around 8 pm and last year I binge-watched “Parenthood,”  and even made it through “The good wife” and hold your horses, the “Gilmore Girls ” with the help of the fast forwarding feature on the remote control.

Giving up cable TV was an excellent idea and saved us a ton of money, but it’s not good for my TV habits. I am becoming one of these older people who seem to be glued in front of the TV. “No more!” I say. Enough is enough. I have a mountain of books laying around and all of them whisper “Read me,” since quite some time. From now on the TV will be off, when Mr. Tv goes to bed.

Bad, bad, bad

I was thinking about giving up cursing, what lasted about 24 hours and on the evening of January 1st, I dropped the first “F-bomb” of the year. I looked surprised and guilty, covered my mouth with my hand and whispered “Craaaaap.”

I don’t think this will work.

At least you got as far as thinking of a few. I’m so lazy I’ll probably just pinch yours. 🙂 🙂 What is it with this time of year? In the run up to Christmas I’m semi indifferent to food. As soon as Jan 1 comes along I become a human hoover. The box of chocs sits between us, and it’s not long since I put another mince pie out of it’s misery by drowning it in brandy cream. 🙂

  3. A great list! Sounds like you have figured most of these out except the swearing! That is a tough one!

hahaha…cursing might be a lost cause for both of us but I am also going to watch my eating and not watch TV series all night, there is so much I can do with my life and I have decided to get out of the autopilot mode and take charge of things. Let’s do this!
    Happy new year. 🙂

Excellent resolutions! They are clear and defined goals which should lead to success! I have my own areas I could clean up. Today’s political circus has me in its jaws and I can’t seem to pry myself away. This leads to cynicism, which I might say, I think I wear really well, and I’ve been liberally sharing my pithy observations with anyone within earshot! I am considering toning it down a bit this year…considering it, anyway. Maybe your resolve to stop binge-watching television series will rub off on me and I’ll step away. But addictions are tough, aren’t they? 🙂

    • Do not tone down in 2018, please. People need to hear us, the midterm elections are important. You can tone down next year -if possible.

Ha! I won’t tone it down where I can still be heard. I think I’ve “shot my wad” with some of my friends, however. I need to learn how to discuss without ranting. There are times I’m absolutely sure I sound unhinged! Of course, there are times when I feel I may become unhinged! I’ve never before sent money to campaigns out of state, but I have been this year–see…just get me talking about this and off I go! LOL!

Oh your last line made me literally laugh out loud. My keyboard is so full of stains from eating in front of it I am sure something will sprout soon. I have also tried to curb the eating opting for a cup of tea or coffee. After 5 minutes of course I need something to go with the tea or coffee…….

Hear! Hear! … as I sit here eating my f***ing lunch in front of my computer. It’s about the only f***ing time I get to catch up on blogs!

Good f***ing luck with the language adjustment 😆

    • Loud Laughter here. You did not just eat your f***lunch in front of the computer, you typed as well. I am glad to know it’s not just me.

I am tired of cleaning my desk (and screen) all the time. I am not sure, but it seems I spit a little once in a while -or how else could stains be on the screen. 🙂

I know I have to clean grease marks off my keyboard on a regular basis, and now that I’ve taken a close look at it, there appears to be soup splatter all over the place 😳

I just had an interesting thought. I wonder if I would lose weight if I stopped eating while I was on the computer and forced myself to take a REAL break, without trying to multi-task. Hmmm – food for thought (no pun intended 😉)

        • I think I eat mindless in front of the computer. Instead of enjoying a meal, I sit in my workroom at lunch and read blogs or the news. I assume I would (will) eat less if I focus on my meal and not on a screen.

Good to know I am not alone.

Good luck on your resolutions. I gave them up years ago when I realized I never had any intention of keeping them. Gave up cable last year and it was the best decision ever. I just use an HD antenna and stream on Roku. Since I rarely watch it anyway it was such a relief to get rid of the cable bill. Watching Netflix on my tablet is my weakness.

I’ve joined you in the ‘no cursing’ resolve. The last time I did it (a couple of years back), it lasted about three months and then some unworthy bag o’ bones cut me off while I was driving and $%#@ came back with a vengeance. I’ve solved that problem by ‘allowing’ the car as a free zone when it comes to swearing…it saves me from having a stroke and causing a big accident, which would really have me flinging f-bombs into the air willy-nilly. The trick, as I see it, is to find a substitute word (perhaps in a different language) and use that. I tend to say “scut” a lot, and bull feathers (worse than horse feathers), and balls!, none of which really satisfy when the only thing that will is an f-bomb. But I’m 57. I’m tired of getting stared at by all and sundry when one of those flies out of my open pie hole. I mean I LOOK like a sweet little old lady…

    • You are only 57. You are young. Somehow I thought you were older as for the “F bomb.” I say “Freesby” instead of F*** but and my favorite word is -and always has been- Craaaaap (with a very long “a”.)

Last year has made me curse more (no surprise there) and I feel I need to get it a bit under control. So far…I am a failure 🙂

I have my computer at home up on a nice wicker box on my desk, so I can stand in front of it and give myself the illusion that it is exercise. I even have a little stack of those carpet samples under the desk to stand on, and upon occasion do a little dancing around or running in place. It keeps me from eating here, although I drink a ton of water and coffee, and if I want to feel really accomplished, I hold my bosoms on and run in place for 15 seconds or so, the way they say is so healthy for you with ‘interval’ something or other. Gotta say the news sounds much more toxic than the chow you are eating there though–that’s what I’d give up first myself! And I use the term ‘f***words’ to describe curses, so it really doesn’t help as a substitute–oh well. We can only do our best! Happy new year!
