Are we distracted enough yet?

Last updated on August 12, 2018

I have always been a selective listener, not to be confused with having selective hearing -what so many of us practice when we grow up.

When some people speak I listen, that has always been like that. My Grandmother had my undivided attention when I was young. When she spoke she had something to say -even when it wasn’t what I wanted to hear.

My horizon widened a bit in school and with it my willingness to listen some more. I selected by instinct, gut feeling, and an arrogant wisdom, only the youth seems to possess. Sister Theresa, the tough nun in boarding school was one of them I listened too, then there were others. A Professor who I adored; when she spoke, she guided me into the light of understanding.

I am now at an age where I have figured out a thing or two, and I am still determined to solve the rest of lives puzzle as well.

Today’s word is louder than ever and full with speakers, but sadly I don’t find much worth listening to anymore. While my questions might have changed over the years, my way of selective listening hasn’t changed a bit, and I am rather proud of it.

There are still a few who get my full attention and he is one of them. When Noam Chomsky speaks, I listen.

This is not the first time I’ve heard this message – from different sources – but it still has the power to make my gut clench in terror.

I first suspected this agenda by the Republican Party under Reagan. It was a lot more subtle but it was all about maximizing corporate profits and to hell with the world. The rich would have the resources to protect themselves.

It’s just now their agenda has escalated out of control. I’m glad Chomsky used the word ‘criminality’ because that’s exactly what I think this is. Organized crime has taken over your government. They are robbing the general population, raping the environment, and murdering the vulnerable through their policies related to health care, gun controls, and social assistant. Harsh words – yes they are. They fit.

    • I feel the same way and I am in absolute disbelief that anybody could approve of it. It is so obvious. I blame the media now. If they would concentrate a bit more on the reality behind Trump, that would be good. Unfortunately, he is indeed the distraction and they fall for it, because the news is about ratings and ranking nowadays.

As a matter of fact , not many people are worth to be listened to , nowadays…..
For wise opinions I have to turn to the past , as it seems…..

Noam Chomsky is a man all should stop and listen too. I fear that too many are being far too reactionary and I fear the consequences of not listening to real wisdom. This is real wisdom. Thank you Bridget, I will be sharing this over and over again with anyone who might have the wit to listen.

That is one scary scenario Bridget, Chomsky is such a wise and smart man, what a shame the Republicans are so deaf to his claims.

        • I think many of us agree with him. I just wish we could spread it some more.

An anamzing and alarming video, Bridget! My gosh! I have been holding my breath for months now, feeling and sensing many of these same alarms, but to hear them voiced by such an illustrious man as Noam Chomsky, disturbs me even more. I’m not sure what to do with this information, but I’d rather be informed than stay deliberately ignorant. All I can say is “wow!”

    • I am not sure what to do with that information either, other than spreading it around.

It is so obvious, still so many seem to be blindfolded.

  7. A good person to listen to. How so many cannot hear his wisdom astounds me!
