Impeachment and Rocket Science

It doesn’t take rocket science to understand how the political game is played in general. The following rules seem to apply:

  • What’s ok when I do it, is not ok for you.
  • When you can’t argue the case, argue the people. When you can’t argue the people, argue the proceedings.

Not being affiliated with any party comes in handy these days. I read and listen, and when I doubt, I fill in a different name.

………… accused of abuse of power and violation of his presidential oath of office
………… had an affair in the oval office.
………… asked a foreign country to interfere with our elections.
………… asked a foreign country to dig up dirt on ………… (opponents son/daughter.)

For the fun of it. Let’s fill in some names.

(Nixon/Trump/Obama) abused power and is in violation of his presidential oath of office.
(Bush/Reagan/Trump) had a sexual affair and lied under oath.
(Obama/Clinton/Trump) asked a foreign country to interfere with our elections.
(Obama/Clinton/Trump) asked a foreign country to dig up dirt on ………… (opponents son/daughter.)

In a perfect world, our emotions should stay the same. We should be outraged over an act, and not react differently depending on the person committing the crime. But our world is not perfect, far from it.

I am open-minded when it comes to politics. I have been known to vote for the other side occasionally -when people wrongfully thought they would know which side I belong to.

But let’s be honest, this was only possible for me because I could find people with similar believes in both parties. I am not talking about political beliefs. I am talking about ethics and morals I could identify with. It’s about me, not them.

…….Fill in the blank, change the names and monitor your reaction.

In politics, I am selfish and self-centered. Are they fit to serve for me?

It seems I have higher standards!

For me, as a Brit, the only thing sadder than seeing the decline in democracy in the US is our government showing every sign of going down the same road.

    • I know, I cannot believe what’s going on in the UK either. Hard to explain to the future generations.

Sadly, it will be. I can’t imagine what the history books will make of all of this.
