The Water Run

Last updated on December 1, 2021

I got a new app on my phone, a WATER-DRINK-REMINDER, which has as the name states, the sole purpose to remind me to drink more water throughout the day, because I have the tendency to forget the world around me when I work. Including coffee and tea, my Drinking Goal is 128 Oz of water a day =1 Gallon. I have a physical job and sweating during the summer months seems to be a part of my day. Also, I work out and exercise.

Eight 16 OZ bottles of water are my daily goal. The bottles are waiting for me in a small fridge, also known as the MEN FRIDGE because it holds my husband’s beer and some other “stuff” for when company comes over.

I installed the water app, changed the settings and notifications to my needs, and the next day I got myself ready to drink like a camel.

I wear an earpiece during the day, so I can answer my phone calls hands-free, which allows me to continue working through a conversation. While focusing on a small vanity chair, the sound of running water reminded me that it was time to take a bottle. I went to the bathroom first, and on my way back I opened an ice-cold bottle of aqua and drank half of the bottle all at once.

Over the next hours, I continued to work, pee and drink, each and every time I heard the water noise in my ear. It’s fascinating how it works, I hear the water and I get the urge.

How could I have forgotten? Thirty years ago in a hospital, the nurse came in and asked us if we all had done our “BUSINESS.” I decided it was none of her business and pretty much didn’t answer the questions.

I had just come out alive of an emergency appendix surgery. I was hurting and my mood was not the best. What did it matter if I had to go or not?

Well, it mattered and when the nurse suspected two of us could not -or did not want to answer the question, or perhaps were not able to go, she went to the sink and turned on the water faucet. The running water noise was all the woman in the neighbor bed had to hear, and she got up slowly and went to the bathroom. I followed her. The sound of running water works like magic.

Ten years later, when we moved and the new place didn’t have enough room for our saltwater fish tank, we had the marvelous idea to put the aquarium in our bedroom.

We had to move it four weeks later, I peed myself senseless. The noise of the running water is all it took. I can’t help it!

Sadly, the water app, while a splendid idea, did not work out for me.

DID YOU KNOW:

The more you weigh, the more water your body needs.

If you work out or you are moving all day long, you need to drink more water.

Is there a setting in the app to turn off the water sound and just give you a prompt?

    • Not sure if it wouldn’t interrupt calls, the water sound doesn’t interfere what I am doing -besides having me want to go. 🙂

Seems like a good idea, that water app, at first glance…but I could see where it might get irritating after awhile.

    • Actually, the water app is great as long as you don’t wear an earpiece 🙂

I have some experience with this topic as I have lived and worked in three or four different Middle Eastern deserts…

    Love your posts.

Personally, I would just put the dude in the shade, give him a cold beer (NA of course) and continue on with the mission. But in Corporate America these days, a “Safety Stand Down” is required. All work stops while they “train” us once again to “drink plenty of water.”

One would think that since humans have been drinking water for some years now, it would not be necessary to conduct this training, but hey! Guess that’s why I’m not in Upper Management. “Keep on spendin’ Boys! It’s only money!”

    • Oh, how interesting. I am so glad I found your blog. “One would think that since humans have been drinking water for some years now, it would not be necessary to conduct this training, but hey!” You are right, one would think, yet I am still learning.

My Mum used to turn a tap on before we went out anywhere, to make sure her little darlings didn’t need to pee as soon as we left the house. Worked every time 😉

    • You Mum was a smart woman. I pictured you and your siblings on the way to the door, then, she turns the water faucet on and you all turn back. Too funny!
