My Comments Never Posted

Today, when I read some of my installments of my “Losing it All” series, I noticed that at least 30% of my replies to comments had never been published, and I wondered about it. How can it be that I write a reply, hit SEND, and invisible internet gremlins detour it into the universal spam box, and they never make it onto my posts?

I can be rude alone – I can bring myself in trouble – I don’t need any help. Help! Perhaps a malfunction in the WordPress program? Not that they ever have any irregularities, of course, other than the one we know about.

Turns out, it’s not a glitch, but actually my fault -so I have been told and in this case, I acknowledge my shortcomings without further research, because it sounds logical enough.

I never go to any of my posts after they are published, but instead, I use the notification icon to open and answer comments. Big mistake, it doesn’t always recognize it when you hit enter, and if you move to the next comment too fast, which I have the tendency to do.

So in case I haven’t replied to your comments and you felt ignored by me, it was not on purpose. I do type an answer to (almost) every statement, even if it’s just the overused “Thank you so much for stopping by.”

It’s common courtesy, good manners, the right thing to do because if someone takes the time to not just read my post (and we all know that’s not always a given) but also engages with me and the subject I wrote about, then you deserve all I have to give, comment-wise.

If it looks like I ignored your statements and I missed your comments.

I have done that a few times myself. I just have to slow down and wait for that posted comment.

For a moment I thought you were talking about me 😀. And I used to wonder why people are selective when they reply to the comments on the post 😂

  3. Oh, quite understandable. Some of these mistakes simply happen to us and we find ourselves caught up in them. They can sure be annoying. But… I’m happy you found and rectified the mistake

  5. The WordPress goblins have voracious appetites and feed off the unwary (that’s all of us!). Of course, we are all to blame, individually and collectively. It couldn’t possibly be shortcomings in the software – perish the thought!

  6. I agree with all you say about the need for a response – so not to know whether your replies have got through is always frustrating. I trust all will run smoother from now on

    • At least now I am aware of it and can check now and then (all the time.)

  7. Don’t be sorry about not commenting, everyone makes mistakes. I even don’t reply to comments right away and then I forget about it.

The result of your haste – or taking a short-cut – has taught me something about WordPress. I nearly always go to the icons to read the messages, but if there are several pertaining to a particular blog, I go there to reply. If not, I reply there and then and now you have me wondering if those ones have gone through 🙂

    • I really believe it had something to do with my rushing it. I clicked but never waited for the message “reply posted” or “you replied” to appear, just went to the next one.

I understand. Sometimes I move around quickly when using WordPress which may be why I find myself not following blogs that I know I didn’t “unfollow.” That may also be the reason why I tend to keep signing up to “follow” my own blog. I’m going to try slowing down. It’s kind of hard though.

    • To be honest, I follow my own blog as well, because then I get an email and I see that my post has been published. There was a time -years ago- when this was an issue.

That seems odd, that it doesn’t recognize you, the author. But anyway, I agree if someone comments on my blog I try my darndest to reply back. Though sometimes I just can’t muster the energy. Still, if we’re trying, we’re trying, and we should get some points for that alone!

    • Honestly, I think sometimes I hit enter and don’t give the program or my computer enough time to react. Now I am typing this in the icon and I will wait until it shows that I replied. Then I will go to my post and curse like hell if it’s not there. 🙂

  12. Don’t be sorry. Gremlins and oddities happen on a daily basic. Like all the posts in reader showing twice.
