Oh, The Joy Of Women

This is not just about politics anymore, there is – at least for me – so much more at stake. Not being able to have children is a hard pill to swallow. I cried more tears than I wish on anybody and now women like me are devalued?

Go bite me! I am a childless dog lady, there you go!

I am so sick and tired of all these attacks on women. It has exhausted me almost to the point that I no longer bear listening to political news because it’s never about substance. Piles of dirt are dug up – or made up – and they are thrown toward the opponent daily, preferably on women.

Is this for real? ‘Childless cat ladies?‘ Of course, now Trump’s young and inexperienced ankle bitter, the Hillbilly Author J.D. Vance is backpaddling, it was all satire (yeah right). Childless by nature or by choice, now we get judged for the amount of children we bear?

This is too much to bear!

We haven’t had a political lawn sign in our yard since 2012 and I wasn’t planning on putting one out this year either. I know that some of my customers will vote differently and I don’t want to offend anybody, nor do I want to share my private opinion with the world, so I thought. And then it all changed.

Driving around in my neighborhood in Ohio, a state known to vote for a Republican, any Republican, has given me a lot to look at last week. Yard signs are going up and many of them are personal. It’s not just for a candidate, no, these are statement signs, many from women and I can’t help but grin from ear to ear.

It’s about time ladies!

I feel the excitement and I feel a shift. People long for joy and equality. The disrespect toward women has to stop, and where better to begin than at the very top.

Hillary Clinton was not charming enough, Kamala Harris laughs too much? Alexandria Ocasio Cortez is a bitch? They talk about what women wear, and how they carry themselves. Credentials and careers, all well-earned, are being questioned. “She is not intelligent enough,” and the best of all, “She happened to turn black,” which I find both amusing and frightening at the same time.

We don’t judge men by what they wear or how they laugh (perhaps we should). Women like me, who don’t have children, are now downgraded to ‘childless cat ladies’.

This nonsense has to stop. The Vice President is not black enough, or has just come to find out that she is part black? What an idiotic statement. Am I still Austrian enough since I am an American as well? Perhaps I should ask Arnold Schwarzenegger, I wanted to talk with him about his vegan lifestyle anyway. From one American Austrian to another.

Back to the yard signs. I can’t help but smile!

I found some of the signs online.

We have lived in the same neighborhood for eleven years. There were not too many “Hillary Signs” in 2016, there were a few “Biden Signs” in 2020, but a lot of “Kamala Signs” have been going up in the last ten days.

Women are fed up!

And they are spot on.

And the one I ordered:

History is being made and wouldn’t it be wonderful Ka(r)ma(-la) if a misogynistic, racist, convicted criminal is kicked into political nirvana by a much younger, colored woman and ex-prosecutor?

After many months (years) of dystopian prospects, I now have great hope for the US election in November. It feels so liberating and great! Hope scrolling has replaced doom scrolling. And it will be an inner daisy picking when DonOLD goes down in the inglorious annals of human history. Go, go, go, all you American women, BIPOC, queer & trans people, childless cat ladies, childless dog ladies, swifties, and stable dudes, GO!

That’s all for today.

The Happy Quitter aka The childless dog lady!

Wow, these are some great signs! I have some hope, but still fear what could still happen when he loses… he will not go quietly. But for the first time in a long time hope is winning out!

I am from the UK. But if I was over there, then me, the childless cat lady would have one or two of these signs in the yard.

  9. To tell you the truth, didn’t we already fight and WIN most of these battles? Why are we having to refight them? Go Kamala!!!!! I will vote for the prosecutor! I’m tired of the criminals running (and ruining) this country.

    • I am with you. I felon can’t vote, a felon shouldn’t be allowed to run for any public office. I am puzzled by the millions of people who seem to be fine with it.

      • I am bewildered that the party that stresses family values endorses a man that represents the exact OPPOSITE of family values. I am flabbergasted that people identify so closely with someone who has 0 character. I just don’t get it.

Right On Bridget. I am so sick and tired of everyone second guessing all women who state what their political platform is and going with the flow of an old white man that does not have one. Angry Old Controlling White Men have screwed it up for too long, its about time to give a woman with a brain and social conscience a chance. Why is there any difficulty with the current choice in POTUS candidates? Because money and power are involved, that is why. Time to take the corporate donor money out of the mix and run an election cycle in 6 weeks.

I was often in a mediation position in my working life and I always tried to follow the rule and asked my reports to do the same—“Hate the Act, not the Actor”. Pick on the policy, not the person. When you look at what Kamala and Trump intend to legislate, there should be no indecision. If I could vote, I’d be on Team Kamala. Allan

    • I had my share of it in my career and I thought it would change during my lifetime, sadly here in the US the time seems to go backward, which is frightening.

    • I think we need hope and we need joy. I cannot stand this darkness and the division and the hatred has to stop. We have spiraled down this rabbit hole way to deep. Time to climb out of it.
