I Play With Myself?

Daily writing prompt
List five things you do for fun.

Can I list more than five? And how do we define fun? HAHA-FUN, or a simple feeling of joy, the pride of accomplishment. Should we talk about sex (no, we should not) or perhaps just the pleasure of eating foods that give us comfort -as well as the extra pounds?

I do like to play alone, with myself so to speak. I am comfortable alone but I enjoy spending time with my other half (he is not the better half, just the half that completes me as I hope I complete him). I love people (not all but many) though I need a break from them now and then (and the breaks are getting longer and are more needed.)

Fun?

First and foremost, I love to laugh and start my day smiling or with a belly laugh. It sets the mood for the rest of the day. I have ’emergency-laugh’ videos that I can watch over and over. I know exactly what happens, yet they never fail to entertain me. I am simple-minded when it comes to laughter.

Danny Kaye in “The Court Jester”. When the helmet flies into his arms, I giggle each and every time.

Creating ‘things’ is fun for me. Just like most older women, I have decided to tackle painting and drawing one more time and when my husband handed me back a note I had written – because he could no longer identify my scribbling as a form of cursive writing – that’s when I knew it was time to relearn calligraphy as well as cursive writing. It was only logical to combine painting and writing.

Walking with our “Lady group” or alone with the dog(s) is fun. It’s a different kind of fun, a mix of accomplishment and relaxation, the inner peace you only find in nature.

I like blogging and writing. I have finally come to terms with the fact that I might be a better writer than I thought I could be and so I will continue blogging for as long as it’s fun.

I have fun taking pictures and I enjoy photography. May it be a photo of our clown dogs or our house squirrel. I enjoy different objects and always seem to find the overlooked or the ‘ugly’ we don’t showcase normally. Of course, it’s fun to take great pictures of nature in all its beauty, but it’s also fun to take a shot of the unusual things we so often neglect.

There are so many more things that I consider fun:

My husband, even the older grumpier version of my once young knight-in-shinning armor. Our dogs and the feral cats, the birds outside. Climbing into bed early. Feeling the warm sun on my face. A snow-walk. The cool lemon-lavender towel you get at the end of a hot yoga class. A really good book. Hearing my loved ones laugh. Finding the perfect gift for someone. Flowers. Iced coffee. A nice candle. Hot baths or showers. Massages. Thoughtful notes. Old photos. Videos of adorable animals. The list goes on…

Oh, and waking up in the middle of the night – because that’s what you do when you get older – and you think it’s almost time to get up, just to find out it’s not even midnight, that’s the biggest fun of all.

    • LOL How could I ever forget, I have seen it a hundred times. It’s one of my 3 go to video scenes when I need a quick laugh. As I mentioned to Peter, I would love to see the outtakes and bloopers. 🙂
