Out of Africa is my comfort movie, because I fell in love with Africa the moment I set foot on this beautiful continent, which is so different in so many ways from where I come from and where I was going to (Austria/USA).
I love the book, written by Karen Blixen, as much as I love the movie in which Meryl Streep portrays Karen. The beauty comes across in word and film. A woman running a farm in Kenya back then was perhaps as unheard of as it is still today. True stories are my cup of tea, and when they have a strong female lead, even better. We need more of it, especially right now, right here.
One Special Night is my go-to Christmas movie. James Garner and Julie Andrews’ meet-cute under circumstances that so many older people have to go through. The suffering and the loss of the special one who has been by our side for decades. It’s a charming movie, one that gives me hope. Not all is lost when all seems lost.

M*A*S*H is and will be forever my favorite TV series. War seen and lived through the eyes of the military personnel operating a Mash unit (Military Army Surgical Hospital) during the Korean War. The idiocy of war is shown so clearly. Humorous at times, a heartbreak so often. The questions so many of us ask when we read about countries fighting each other. Why do we do it? Will it ever stop?
Rio Bravo with John Wayne, Dean Martin, and Ricky Nelson. I cannot resist tuning in when it’s on, which doesn’t make any sense. I am neither a John Wayne fan nor am I particularly crazy about Westerns. Maybe because Dean can sway me forever?
Trains, Planes, and Automobiles is my Thanksgiving movie. What can I say? It makes me laugh, and it makes my eyes water. It gently pushes me toward the upcoming Holidays. How can you resist Steve Martin and John Candy? Well, I can’t! My husband knows it; he doesn’t even try to stop me from recording it again and again, year after year.

I’ve never seen Rio Bravo – does Dean sing in it? I am so-so on Westerns but do enjoy watching Tombstone when it is on. I think this week we are going to hit a classic that my boyfriend has never seen – Citizen Kane. Visually it is such a powerful movie. We dissected it in a film class and I still see new things every time I watch. I am a sucker for musicals though. Even as a kid… I liked the old big production musicals that mom had seen in her youth, including the original synchronized swimmers in the Ester Williams flicks! Sad to say, I have never sat down start to finish to see Out of Africa, but I have probably seen the bits and pieces at different times to add up to the whole movie. Hadn’t heard of the James Garner and Julie Andrews film. I really need to see more movies… now where is that popcorn pan?
Have always taken note of Karen Blixen. . . in my case have also been fortunate enough to have been to her home in Denmark .. .
The English Patient is a film that should only be seen on the big screen, those wide dessert landscapes and a wonderful cast and story. I then read and enjoyed the book.
That’s a very good movie. I am not sure if I would watch it over and over.
These are all good movies that can be watched over and over. Out of Africa is a favourite of mine too, even though I have never been to that continent. Pride and Prejudice (any version) is a movie I have seen many times and will continue to watch. Hubby watches it with me and doesn’t complain.
I have never seen ‘Pride and Prejudice’ it’s on my ‘must-watch-list’ forever, but somehow I didn’t get to it—yet. One day I will and I know I will enjoy it.
