If I earned $1 every second. This would be my earnings:
$100 — 1 minute and 40 seconds
$1,000 — 16 minutes and 40 seconds
$10,000 — 2 hours, 46 minutes, and 40 seconds
$100,000 — 1 day, 3 hours, 46 minutes, and 40 seconds
$1 Million — 11 days, 13 hours, 46 minutes, and 40 seconds
$1 Billion — 31 years, 251 days, 13 hours, 46 minutes, and 40 seconds (quite a jump)
I don’t really remember when it happened. It wasn’t that long ago when money was still measured in millions, and then somehow, quietly, we went from millions to billions. Maybe I am the only one, but I cannot wrap my head around it.
A billion dollars. Nine zeros. $1,000,000,000.
One thousand millions!
I can’t wrap my head around it.
As an indie author/story teller, I rely on self-advertisement, so here you go:
If you like my writing, you may enjoy my memoir Losing It All: Houseless, with Love, Dogs and Sausages. It’s the true story of how my husband and I lost almost everything during the recession, became houseless, and rebuilt our lives—without ever giving up our four dogs. It’s a story of hardship, humor, friendship, and the resilience to keep moving forward when life falls apart.
Thank you for reading and for supporting independent authors.

You may (or may not) be interested in the fact that Modern British English uses the international “short scale,” where a billion equals 1,000 million (1,000,000,000). This differs from historical British English (the “long scale”), which used to define a billion as one million million (1,000,000,000,000). The UK officially adopted the 1,000 million standard in 1974 to align with international finance and official statistics. When I reach that amount, I’ll send you a few dollars!
Didn’t they speak of Elon Musk and a trillion dollars just a few days back 🙂 ? And there am I , doing surveys at night to make the extra dollar, and happy when some give you 1300 points (rare) which gives you $1.30 towards the $50 you have to collect each time ere you collect an Amazon voucher 🙂 ! That is real, the rest is a fairytale !!!
One million isn’t really much today. I can’t believe how much the homes are selling for around me. It would be very difficult to get into the housing market for the first time. I’m sure your book is fascinating. I’m going to look more into it.
If only………
You lost me. But I thought of a lovely china piggy that I filled with pennies.
We look like fools with our piggy banks don’t we?
