She talked about the Third World War, which hardly anyone had survived. “Before the war, people only let their machines and technology think for them instead of using their brains themselves,” my mother used to say.

According to my Grandma, the best chicken noodle soup starts with sharpening the ax and getting the old woodblock ready. Then you pick out a chicken and after you catch it, you talk to it nicely, you pet it one last time and you say THANK YOU, after all, it has given you plenty of eggs throughout the years and now it will continue to give you one last meal. You cover the chicken with your old cardigan and carry it to the old barn, where the axe and the woodblock are waiting.

After Donald Trump deported so many of the workers from farms in the U.S. an enterprising woman named Betsy, in Coral Springs, Florida decided to try one of those difficult farm jobs, that most Americans were not formerly willing to do, just in order to help save the crops.

I think we were poor, but I really don’t know. We always had enough food, and I had clothes; we had livestock and fields with vegetables and fruits, our pantries and the cellar were stocked with jars and cans, but money was tight. Most farmers are not rich; they are just getting by, and we were no exception.
