His head on my shoulder
I feel his breath on my neck
A quick kiss, then a deep sigh
Letting me know that he is happy

Till poverty knocked at her door
She never knew how bare
The uneventful days of those
Who have but want and care.

The other day a shoe ran by me -it had a puppy attached. The sliding glass door was open, it all happened so quickly. Still trying to wake up, I wasn’t fast enough, or perhaps I took my time, after all, it wasn’t my shoe.

Just the other day I pulled a staple out of my sneakers. The sole had taken the abuse and had protected my feet from getting hurt. I thanked my shoes for doing such a good job and it felt odd at first. Who in the right state of mind, says THANK YOU to the shoes?

How we look at our scars is entirely up to us. We get hurt, and when we heal, what’s left is a mark -inside or outside. As many of you know, my husband had open-heart surgery just two years ago. Whenever I look at his naked chest I shudder and wish somehow I could have prevented it, but it only lasts for a few seconds, then I am grateful. He looks at his scar with joy. He was spared a heart attack and considers himself the luckiest man alive.

Oh, we may learn a little about the behavior of the human body at high altitudes, and possibly medical men may turn our observation to some account for the purposes of aviation. But otherwise nothing will come of it. We shall not bring back a single bit of gold or silver, not a gem, nor any coal or iron…

Of course, you can’t unfry an egg, but there is no law against thinking about it.

If I had my life to live over, I would try to make more mistakes.
I would relax. I know of very few things that I would take seriously.
I would go more places. I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers.
I would eat more ice cream and less bran.

Writing and Prompts

2007 – 2021 “Leia”

I will lend to you for awhile a puppy,
For you to love her while she lives
and to mourn for her when he is gone.
Maybe for 12 or 14 years, or maybe for 2 or 3
But will you, till I call her back
take care of her for me?
