From today’s point of view, the teacher of my school days who taught me a lot was a pretty weird guy. He was the only male teacher in a boarding school in Bavaria, a school run by Catholic nuns.

I had to laugh when I read today’s prompt. Like the joke about traffic, when the truck driver on the radio shouts, “There is a car driving in the wrong direction,” and the other one answers, “What do you mean ONE, hundreds are driving in the wrong direction.”

I cannot change this world but I believe things would change IF we would dare to play this commercial every day on all TV channels during prime time. If we would share it on social media EVERYWHERE, it might change people’s minds. I had to watch it twice to fully understand.

Christiane F. how could I forget her? The name is very well known in Germany and other German-speaking countries. Men and women close to my age, remember her well. We met her in school that day when our teacher dimmed the lights. It was movie time. “We talk about it later.”

In 9th grade, after reading about Joan of Arc, we watched Carl Dreyer’s 1928 The Passion of Joan of Arc, a French silent historical film. Some of the girls in our girl’s only boarding school were quickly bored, and continued to look at the teenage magazines they had smuggled into the auditorium, the rest of us were mesmerized by the screen.

Could it be that simple? Kids and teachers in Thailand wear special hats, which make sure that they keep the necessary distance.  I love the idea for many reasons. First of all, I can see that it illustrates distance in a way a child will understand.

I watched the news last night, saw the pictures of our “new” old schools and I while I am glad they made them safer, I feel saddened at the same time. Many of the schools now look like prisons. The school shootings have left marks. Locked and guarded doors, steel walls, double entrees and armed security guards on duty are now the norm in many schools.
