When I am an old Lady

hopscotch-ladies

We don’t have children, so I might not be able to spread the joy in the same way, but I hope from the bottom of my heart, that I will be playing in the mud just for the fun of it…later on, when I will be an old Lady.

When I am an old Lady

When I’m an old lady, I’ll live with each kid,

And bring so much happiness…just as they did.

I want to pay back all the joy they’ve provided.

Returning each deed! Oh, they’ll be so excited!

(When I’m an old lady and live with my kids)

I’ll write on the wall with reds, whites and blues,

And I’ll bounce on the furniture…wearing my shoes.

I’ll drink from the carton and then leave it out.

I’ll stuff all the toilets and oh, how they’ll shout!

(When I’m an old lady and live with my kids)

When they’re on the phone and just out of reach,

I’ll get into things like sugar and bleach.

Oh, they’ll snap their fingers and then shake their head,

(When I’m an old lady and live with my kids)

When they cook dinner and call me to eat,

I’ll not eat my green beans or salad or meat,

I’ll gag on my okra, spill milk on the table,

And when they get angry…I’ll run…if I’m able!

(When I’m an old lady and live with my kids)

I’ll sit close to the TV, through the channels I’ll click,

I’ll cross both eyes just to see if they stick.

I’ll take off my socks and throw one away,

And play in the mud ’til the end of the day!

(When I’m an old lady and live with my kids)

And later in bed, I’ll lay back and sigh,

I’ll thank God in prayer and then close my eyes.

My kids will look down with a smile slowly creeping,

And say with a groan, “She’s so sweet when she’s sleeping!”

You can live with your kids if only the daughter in law wants you, and if she doesn’t, and you are still living with her, you pass the time wishing yourself miles away. As one who is going through it.

I am, but what can I do? When I ask my son to let me move away, he doesn’t want to. My daughter in law’s (dil) behavior leaves much to be desired. I am at the receiving end. Much of my time is spent hiding in my room.

I assume you and your daughter in law don’t get along too well. I further assume you are unhappy and I can imagine your son and his wife might have some fights over this situation. Makes me think there are 3 unhappy people stuck in a situation together.

My son says he won’t be able to see me like he does at home. Because of his job he is short of time. I have told him it’s okay if he can visit me once a week; if he can’t once a month. For me it’s very hard to face a person when you know that person doesn’t like you.

            • Move. Your son will have to make time. Move, have your own life and have fun. You sound way too sad and unhappy.

I will, Inshallah. I am trying to find a house (within my means). Thank you for bearing up with me.

Love this “inspiring” and tender poem….
This could be a way to pay back somebody!

  6. I always thought I might be living with my kids. Who thought they’d still be living with me?

    • Well, you can still bring them happiness as they did :-).
