Donald Trump addressed the African American voters with the words, “What do you have to lose,” and a good friend of mine almost lost her cool; she had a few words for him that I cannot repeat and she had every right to be angry. She is African American, and she can see the ugly truth behind his laughing face.
A responsible political party would have prevented a dangerous man like Donald Trump from getting as far as he has – a xenophobic choleric, a racist, a man who believes in the superiority of the white race. But politics is about power. ”I am voting for the conservative party. And if this jackass just happens to be leading this mule train, then so be it.” That’s what a lady said after the last presidential debate, and I felt so sorry for her -so sorry for us. Blind loyalty is a dangerous thing.
Donald Trump opened Pandora’s box a while ago. He attracts all kind of questionable people and yes, I use the word “questionable” because that’s the politest word I can come up with, when I think about white supremacist.
There are people like David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the KKK. In July, the 66-year-old Duke announced his candidacy for the US Senate in his home state of Louisiana. Like Trump, Duke is running as a Republican and like the presidential candidate, Duke is also receiving little support from the GOP establishment.
But that doesn’t matter, Duke believes because something much bigger is at stake. “The climate of the country has moved in my direction,” Duke says. Hate and anger, racism and more hate, that’s the direction they are taking.
Duke no longer wants to be seen as the outsider with links to the Ku Klux Klan. It’s 2016 and times have changed, as he sees it, and he has now arrived in the mainstream. “Trump says things these days that sound a lot like what I said decades ago,” Duke says, and he is right.
The Republican nominee has taken white supremacism out of the fringe and made it socially acceptable. In addition to Duke, Trump also enjoys the support of the right-wing extremist website The Daily Stormer. And Trump has done little to rid himself of the demons he has awoken. Trump initially didn’t even distance himself from Duke’s support before ultimately -tepidly- rejecting it. When he was asked he only said: “I don’t know anything about David Duke, okay?” It was only his campaign leadership that later stated that they didn’t want to have anything to do with Duke.
But was that simply a tactical move? Or was it the truth, for a change?
What do African-American voters have to lose in this election? Everything -like all of us!

Well said. I think many people were offended by those simple words from him and he is simply way too good at forgetting that he is addressing other humans. I am worried for our country for the next four years.
It’s more than 4 years, IF Trump wins. It’s about the supreme court nomination. An old conservative judge would sit there for maybe 20 years and they would turn the clock back in time. Healthcare, LGBT rights, Gay marriage…moving forward would be impossible.
I wouldn’t mind a change in healthcare, but I hated obama’s policies. We’ll see what happens! Clinton and trump are both horrible.

Trump is obviously a dangerous man who does not deserve to be the leader of our country. But people are being blinded and irrationally loyal to this opportunist.. Shame on us!!

Every day I become more frightened……and saddened at what is out there- what is going on. Did you see the interview with CNN at one of the rallys after the debate? Terrifying that people are so in agreement with a lunatic and think everything he does is right and justified. Terrifying
The way I see it, the US is going to be in critical condition regardless of who actually wins. The country is so polarized now and all the extreme right *crazies* have been validated by this campaign. This is not something your country is going to bounce back from any time soon.
All I can do is sit here and watch the train wreck about to happen … knowing that the carnage is going to be ugly.

Quite honestly, when Trump started running, I thought it was a joke; now it’s gotten to be scarily serious. I feel so bad for everyone in the US who has no option but to hear his ugly words on a regular basis…
I’ve got a knot in my gut as this election draws near. The partisan republicans are convinced that Hillary is just as dangerous. It’s the partisan media on both sides that have influenced this huge divide. Journalism isn’t seeking out what’s in the best interest of the country outside of partisanship. Ugh! I agree with all the other comments, of course. The woman’s statement in Ohio was incredibly distressing. That someone would vote for a narcissistic sociopath simply because he represents her party is insane.

This is what scares me more than Donald Trump. The climate of the country…the hate, anger and racism that still exists. I have to…want to…believe that the majority of people in the U.S. are not this and that the problem is the voice of love and acceptance is not loud enough.
The majority of people here are not like this. This election has two candidates and neither one of them is loved or liked by many.
Young voters will sit at home or they will vote for a 3rd party candidate, who doesn’t have a chance. Every missed vote is a vote for Trump, that’s what it will come down to.
You are correct. I may have to vote as a means to keep him out of office, which I really don’t want to do. I’m not sure how we ended up with these candidates, but perhaps it’s a wake-up call to both parties…to not let this happen again.
I am not a Clinton fan either, but I will vote for her to vote against Trump.
Not to ignore the importance of that, but he’s also a potential danger to the rest of the world as well. I fear for all our futures if the American people are stupid enough to elect this vile egomaniac.
I am watching Germany as well, the right wing party as gained some ground there as well -what I find so unbelievable, considering there history.

The AfD party has been very cynical. They began as a financial protest movement and adopted a far right stance when they realised it would win them more votes. The death of Hitler didn’t end the far right in Germany! Watch out for Austria too, a smaller country but the right are very strong there too. Looking forward to your posts on this, it’s interesting to see a voice from America that isn’t being fed to us by the mass media.

I think one reason, why I write post that openly show my political opinion, is our mass media. They have forgotten what the news really should do. They should inform us about EVERYTHING. The good, the bad and the ugly preferable in a neutral form.
The news here is Hollywood style. It’s about headlines, ratings and readers and sadly about manipulation. Sensationalism has taken over.
I have satellite TV and can watch CNN and Fox News, among others. I can see what you mean – thankfully, our main news channels are rather better, but they are going that way a bit.
