The White Rules of Heritage Ethnicity

Image result for white but not caucasian

When a white woman with black ancestors will insist on being white, we will tell her otherwise. We will not allow her to call herself Caucasian. One drop of negro blood makes you African American, don’t you dare and lie to us. You are not white, you are black. Don’t you ever forget! The color of your skin doesn’t matter. We know better!

You might try to hide the truth but sooner or later it will come out and we will be merciless!

On the other hand…

When a white woman with Native American ancestors proudly mentions them, we will tell her otherwise. We will not allow her to call herself Native American. One drop of native American blood doesn’t make you Native American. Don’t you dare and lie to us. Look in the mirror, you are white. The color of your skin matters. We know better!

You might try to tell us the truth but we will not listen. We will call you a liar and call you names, and we will be merciless!

(Of course, the same goes for men.)

All of it puzzles me since years. The hypocrisy behind it all is so sad.

This is just another unfortunate example of how far we have strayed from the American ideals I seem to recall having been taught to me as a young child in school – specifically that this country is a “melting pot” where all the “identities” that we might have carried from the “old country” (even if that was here) would blend into one with the result being no differentiation among individual Americans. As with many advances in technology, those DNA test that so many people are taking these days have proven to be a double-edged sword that, at least and definitely in this case, seem to be more detrimental than beneficial. As someone we know all too well might say, this is truly “SAD!”

  2. I wish you’d provided links to the idiots spouting out both sides of their head… Either ‘color of skin’ matters or it don’t. Nobody gets it BOTH ways. To me? It never mattered and it never ever will either. But people on the whole are pretty stupid, aren’t they?

    • I wish I could print it and put it on bill boards but perhaps that would be money wasted. The ones who don’t want to understand, will continue to do so.

This has been a very strange volley of barbs today, hasn’t it? Once again, my head hurts! Your points are very well made, but I wish common sense and logic had any place in today’s public dialogue.
