For me, this is a verdict for all women.
A wealthy man in a powerful position vs a woman.
Women had to let it happen for way too long. This verdict is another big step forward. Sexual abuse is not happening because women ask for it, it’s still happening so often because so far most men have gotten away with it.
Today, I felt happiness when I read that ex-president D. Trump has to pay up. The jury of the federal court in Manhattan has reached a verdict in the civil case for defamation of author E. Jean Carroll against Donald Trump. The ex-president must pay Carroll 83.3 million dollars in damages.
For me, it’s not about Trump. It’s about all the women!
I can imagine that it hasn’t been easy to come forward. Of course, the die-hard-don’t-think Trump fanatic will deny the woman the right to be RIGHT. After all, it’s their cult leader and in their eyes, he can’t do wrong. No matter what he does. No matter what he says. And not for the first time I feel sorry for them. It’s incurable blindness of the mind. They are in a toxic relationship and it has changed most of them.
I am a woman, and this is my blog. Let me say it again. I am happy, for all women in similar situations, and I am secretly thinking about all the times when I had to deal with powerful men who thought they had the right to touch or show inappropriate behavior -even if it was ‘just’ a whistle or tongue clicking when I was walking by.
Sexual abuse comes in so many forms, just like all abuse.
The panel, consisting of seven men and two women, deliberated for about 2 hours and 45 minutes, according to CNN. “I’m not going to comment on the verdict you reached,” Judge Lewis A. Kaplan said, praising jurors for their attention and focus.
In her closing argument, Carroll’s lawyer said that the writer deserves at least $24 million in damages. After the verdict was read, the lawyers wiped tears from Carroll’s faces as they hugged their client, according to a court reporter for the New York Times.
Sadly, we all know D. Trump will not pay a dime. He will continue to abuse the legal system, and he will continue his delay tactics because so far it has served him well enough.
…

…
From the bottom of my heart “Congratulations Mrs. Carroll!“
Trump posted on his social media platform shortly after the verdict was announced, calling the verdict “absolutely ridiculous.” He announced his intention to appeal, again calling the trial a “Biden-led witch hunt against me and the Republican Party.” He adds, “They have taken away all the rights of the First Amendment. THIS IS NOT AMERICA!«
I feel the need to correct D. Trump. What an insult again against Jean Carroll. Like she is too little and too scared to go after him. In his confused mind, perhaps because of his high age, he seems to think women need to hide behind a man to sue him. How wrong he is -again. It’s not a which hunt Donald, it’s not a hunt, it’s justice! It’s women fighting back. It’s women standing tall. It’s women risking all.
This verdict is for all women and yes, hon, this is America.
For everybody who hasn’t followed this trial as closely as I have:
A New York jury had already found it proven in May 2023 that Trump had assaulted, sexually abused, and later slandered Jean Carroll in a New York high-end department store in 1996. The jury then awarded Mrs. Carroll compensation of five million dollars. And even before the start of the second trial, a judge had ruled that further comments by Trump were defamatory. This meant that the jury only had to decide on the amount of compensation that the ex-president of Carroll must pay.

I Think Donald Trump Is a Members of the Illuminati
LOL
God Bless E Jean Carroll
It is a great victory for women. Hopefully the first of many as we regain our rights that are trying to be taken away from us.
May we get all our rights back.
At least the juries are not corrupt
Here! Here! I agree with you on all points, Bridget. Ms. Carroll is very strong to be able to feel vindicated for telling the truth and navigating all the threats and vile comments. There are now two juries who have supported her and I am relieved. To have turned in any other way would have been a major setback for women who need to feel it’s possible to tell the story of their abuse experience and be heard.
I would love to see him sentenced to a month in jail every time he defames Mrs Carroll. he would surely have racked up several years by now. How can he be allowed to continue to repeat his lies and defamation?
Justice is not quick, that’s for sure.
I can’t even wrap my head around that amount of money. I think you’re right though, he will stall with the payout…
Well, it’s one of these verdicts were the court can take his money …but… of course he will go through appeal and appeal and who knows, if people are still naïve enough to vote for him, then the sexual predator could actually pardon himself, even though it’s unconstitutional. But he want to get rid of the constitution anyway. I wonder why?
I too am pleased that she won. What amazes me is that Trump can brazenly announce that he doesn’t even know who she is! This is not only belittling to her, but indicates there may be any number of other women abused by him in the past.
Well he forgot that WWII already happened and can’t remember what state is rallying in, so I suppose he is too old to remember everything.
I will never get over the fact that 63M people voted for him in 2016 – AFTER the Access Hollywood tape came out.
You and me both, especially women. How can any woman vote for a man who treats women that badly, physically and verbally? I don’t get it. Men would never vote against their own kind. It’s the women who throw their own kind under the bus. It’s mind-blowing and they play in the hands of the angry old men, who love to boss us around.
White women specifically through us all under the bus in 2016. Now it’s no longer safe to get pregnant Texas. And don’t even get me started with the Catholic Church. 😡
They are religious fanatics who want us all to live by their rules, while they would never accept our rules. We have around 460,000 million rape victim each year, and the real number is much higher. Each one of them, many children, can get pregnant against their will.

All good points. I agree with you, and I do hope Ms Carroll finds some peace and satisfaction with the verdict.
This was not easy for her. It’s a total loss of privacy and I admire her for going through with it, especially when he started to offend and belittle her over and over.
Of course he won’t pay anything. He’s an awful person. Maybe she can garnishee his funds after the appeals are done, if she and he are still alive.
It’s one of these verdicts where the court they can take the money if he doesn’t write the check. But what if there isn’t any money?
He’s probably hidden most of it already. But maybe the court will make him sell a property, though those are probably mortgaged to the hilt. She’ll never see 83 million, but she has the satisfaction of know she told the truth.
If he ever had it to begin with. He is not as rich as he makes us all think he is. There is a reason why he refused to make his tax returns public. Why hide it if you have nothing to hide?
This Trump was so tragic 😥. Anita
