For me, this is a verdict for all women.
A wealthy man in a powerful position vs a woman.
Women had to let it happen for way too long. This verdict is another big step forward. Sexual abuse is not happening because women ask for it, it’s still happening so often because so far most men have gotten away with it.
Every child born should be wanted, loved, and cherished by it’s parents. That’s what I wish for. Sadly, it’s not always the case. I was an unwanted child myself. My mother made sure I knew how much she didn’t want me, she repeated it over and over. Once, when I was five or six years old, she told me she threw herself in front of my father’s car when she was very pregnant with me. I suppose it was in the driveway when he was driving slow, while she didn’t have a problem hurting me, she surely wouldn’t have risked harming herself.
We watched too much TV during self-isolation, there was nothing else we could do. The Coronavirus comes with a heavy dose of fatigue, and we did not even try to fight it. We started watching “Saving Grace” with Holly Hunter, who we both happen to like, but soon my husband got tired of the never-ending sex scenes.
“Happy Mother’s Day,” he said, looked at me and gave me the receipt. He meant well, so do all the others, wishing me the same. Now I just smile politely, a smile that doesn’t reach my eyes and everybody who knows me well would notice. The strangers in the stores they don’t know me, they don’t notice. How could they? It’s their job to be polite to customers. They mean no harm. The younger ones, who don’t have children, think about their own mothers. The older ones, who have children smile, think about their own kids. It’s natural so it seems.
We are writing our own version of the Handmaiden’s Tale, and it’s a brutal one.
I moved into my Grandmothers farmhouse when I was six years old. I arrived at her doorsteps with a small suitcase, a bag of toys, and all the other valuable belongings a young girl possess.
Once upon a time there was a girl who lived in a faraway land, where everything seemed impossible. She watched others play and laugh, while she was hiding in her room crying.
