Our puppy Luna, fourteen weeks old. Here she is: all legs, funny ears, and lots of energy. She is at the age where her body, ears, and legs haven’t agreed on what end size they want to be. “Stop growing so fast,” I want to tell her, but I fear it’s hopeless.
What happened to our little puppy?
I look at the ”old” pictures from only two months ago. How innocent she was. So cute. So little. So well behaved.

And now? She is all over the place. So playful, so full of life, so full of mischief.
Gosh, we love her…until we hate her—which seems to come in waves. She goes from ”Good Puppy” to ”Baby Idiot ” at a speed that would leave Albert Einstein puzzled. She is so darn fast in everything.
And our older dogs? The two who know better? They show Luna all the ‘fun stuff,’ like nibbling on my azalea bush or moving the wastebasket under my desk, so they can all snoop through it.
What a pack. Here they are. The two idiots and a baby idiot. A photo taken through the closed glass door. (Was I hiding inside?)

…
Look how big Luna is. I think I have figured it out. The brain and the body of a puppy don’t grow at the same speed. At that age, it’s a pea brain in a growing body. What a wonderful recipe for chaos.
Yesterday, she played so cute, and then she got up. You can hear me in the video, and guess what? I sound like my grandma. I am giving you a warning upfront, just in case. When did I become my grandma?
…
“Whatever you have in mind, it’s a No-No.” Goodness, what wisdom on my end.
The other day I read an article where the author asked: At what age will I start to like my puppy? I laughed out loud. Let me think. I have been there; I am trying to remember. When they leave the teenage stage behind and become adult dogs: between one and two years old.
Oh, good. We have only 1 year and three months to go. That’s going to be a walk through the tulips.
In all honesty. Luna is adorable. She is a puppy…but…puppyhood is not one long stream of adorable Instagram moments.
If you think about getting a dog. Adopt an adult dog. Many are waiting for you in a shelter.
We don’t regret getting a puppy, but the breed mix we got is a bit hyper. We are thinking of investing in a doggy treadmill. It works by dog power only—no battery or motor involved. A genius invention for cold winters and summers that are too hot for daily walks.
Here, a picture taken an hour ago: the two idiots and the baby idiot.

Although, to be fair, look at Luna’s wrinkled forehead. The baby idiot is in learning mode. Luna has discovered that “sit” sometimes results in food. So while the other two are probably wondering what we will be doing (after being called), Luna is working the system.
Sit. Look innocent. Collect payment.
The pea brain is learning.
“Mom, don’t call me a baby idiot. I am smart,” she would say. And she would be correct.

I love the way you described Luna’s “pea brain in a growing body.” Seeing her at fourteen weeks old, already turning the wastebasket into a treasure chest, is both hilarious and heartbreaking. The contrast between the “old” pictures from two months ago and the current whirlwind of energy really captures how fast puppies outgrow their first clumsy steps. It’s funny how the older dogs become the unofficial teachers, showing her where the mischief hides. Your photo through the closed glass door makes me feel like I’m right there, watching the chaos unfold. Thanks for sharing the honest, sweet chaos of a new pup.
Luna is growing way too fast, like all puppies. They are little terrorist and little angels when they are exhausted or sleep. Goodness, she keeps us busy. The amount of information they have to process so quickly and all our human rules. It’s a lot to take in.
She is so adorable. I love all three of them together. Have fun. Thye keep us young!
They are growing into a pack and I do my best to be a good leader. It’s amusing and tiring, but very rewarding. You know what I mean.
More like three witches
Two witches and a warlock lol
I thought that if I got it wrong there would be mention of one or two warlocks 🙂
So darn cute!
Thank you so much. I’ll tell her.
It’s a no, no. I love it! She is growing like wildfire.
Good one, Ernie. “Growing like a wildfire.” So true!
😁
so cute
Thank you, Beth. I think she knows.
