My first boyfriend looked like a Semmelknödel, an Austrian bread dumpling, according to my Grandma, and now looking back, I have to admit she might have had a point. Still, my favorite dumpling got shamed!
Ugly: Unpleasant – Unattractive – Perhaps even disgusting?
Mother’s Day seems quite harmless. You invite your mother to brunch, buy flowers, maybe even some chocolates and you enjoy good times together.
But the history of this modern holiday is marked by a rampage of conflicts, controversies, and consumerism. Mother’s Day has a dark side and who other than someone like me- who doesn’t celebrate Mother’s Day- should point it out.
I can sense him. He is hiding back there, just waiting for me to come closer.
What will happen? Will he come out right away or will he wait until I turn my back and attack then?
“Look this is the one,” I said. “I saw it moving, this must be the special snowflake.”
“They all will move after it warmed up,” she replied.
“But this one moved first,” and I pointed to the melting snowflake.
