Why do we make our beds in the morning, if we slip right under the same sheets in the evening?
Every morning in boarding school at 5:30 a.m. Sister Theresa opened the door to our bedroom, she cheerfully wished us GUTEN MORGEN before she drew back the curtains and opened the tall, old windows as wide as she could, even when it was snowing outside.
Working From Home
I remember the days when I’d speculate
That working from home would simply be great.
No need for the car, the tie and the suit,
No need, ever again, for that daily commute.
I heard a Doctor on TV saying at this time, when we all are forced to stay at home, we should focus on inner peace. To achieve this we should always finish things we start. Now or never! Time to finish old projects and calm down by doing so.
Stay home, they say and I do.
Don’t stress out, they say and I try.
We are in it together, they say
and I know they are lying.
We live in an older community governed by a homeowners association. In order to build an add-on structure such as a pergola, I have to get a detailed building plan that is compliant with the city codes. I can’t just say that I need a pergola and get the project approved.
I wish you could talk to me. Yes, you the damaged table and the old chairs right beside you. Tell me where you have been. Who made you and where do you come from? Who owned you throughout the years and what did you see? How did you like your life so far and now in up in age, would you like to be brought back to live on?
Right about now, when the sun shines a little bit brighter, that’s when I start to see dirt everywhere. I have the spring cleaning disease! Apparently, it runs in our family, my Grandmother gave it to me.
I love our kitchen, but it’s rather small, and whenever I feel like I cannot live another day without a dishwasher, I look at the cabinet space I would lose and my desire for another appliance flies out of the window.
She is gone. The house is empty; a shiny red realtor’s sign is placed in the yard. She left unnoticed, the neighbors didn’t give her a farewell; no cards or well wishes were exchanged. She lived in this neighborhood for 25 years; everybody knew her, but nobody felt close to her.
Cleaning fairy #3 was a Russian lady, who came from a country which belonged to Russia in the past and now they don’t speak Russian anymore -turned out she didn’t speak much English either. Needless to say, we had some communication problems. She knocked on my door and introduced herself as HOUSECLEANING, what made me feel like a guest in a luxury hotel. “You show me chemicals,” she demanded, and the way she talked to me scared me a bit.
