Today is the last day in September and we had the first cold night. Summer is over, the winds are picking up and the October fairy is getting ready to paint all the leaves in beautiful reds and golds, so that we don’t forget why it’s called the “Golden October.”

Our not so little puppy Patches had her 4 month birthday yesterday. She weighs already 25 pounds and gets more and more black spots. Many are still under the fur on her skin and just shine through, others pop up over night.
Finally, the daily rain has stopped and it is summer in Ohio. It is warm and sunny outside, hummingbirds are drinking from the feeder, flowers are blooming and our outside room looks inviting.
I grew up with the words “if you are ever lost or in trouble, try to find a policeman” and it made sense to me. We had two policemen in our small village, one was an Italian Carabinieri, the other one an Austrian Gendarm. Both didn’t have too much to do, nothing dramatic ever happened, at least nothing that I can recall.
I love painted gourds, they are not just pretty, they make the best birdhouses and nesting places one can offer in a yard. We have them since years and they never stay empty.
I had a project in Orlando, Florida this winter and I enjoyed the warm weather so much. What a nice break it was. I left Ohio bundled up, freezing and hours later I stood outside with just a t-shirt and enjoyed the warm weather.
