IF the local or national government accomplishes one thing this year -I had to laugh about this one. We already question that they might just get “one” thing right, it’s pretty sad when you think about it. God forbid they have deal with more than one issue.
But, lets just consider they would actually listen today and my post could make a difference, then I would like the world leaders to listen to a girl. Her name is Severn Suzuki. In 1992, at the age of 12, she silenced the world representatives at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro with a speech, that is as accurate today as it has been then…almost 25 years ago.
I wish we all would listen to her again, in behalf of the generations to come, because we don’t have all the time in the world left.
LETS GET ONE THING RIGHT…all of us!!!

If your government (local or national) accomplishes one thing this year, what would you like that to be?
Pity nothing has improved. Platitudes and empty promises are easy. Apparently anything more is impossible. Pity. Pity us, our children, and grandchildren. They will pay the bills we leave behind.
“Pity” is the right word. It’s almost disgusting how we deny the simple truth that we abuse this planet in any form and way possible. This is going to be a very high bill, that might bankrupt the next generations.
This speech is dated 1992 , that’s to say 25years ago, but ,it seems , nothing has changed since then!
These words , so touching and realistic, should be spread all over the world ….

If you don’t know how to fix it, please stop breaking it…why are we who have everything still so greedy…you are what you do, not what you say…
We just spent the last eight weeks in our Sunday School class grappling with exactly what she said. How on earth do we get that speech out to everyone? We have a security system, a prosperity system, and an equity system that turns together and has turned into a suicide machine. How do we make others aware? How do we change people’s way of thinking? She was so eloquent. Thank you for sharing that. I will be passing it along. (Perhaps to my Senator’s office… Who knows what might happen.)
First of all thank you for reading and listening. I agree with you so much. I wish this speech would go to more places then just a handful readers here. I remember how I felt when I heard it for the first time and this hasn’t changed ever since. It would be great if you would pass it along. I want to believe so much that we can make a difference.
